Stillwater Mountain Lodge hides in the shadows of Glacier National Park and the surrounding old growth forest, eight miles northwest of Whitefish. Twenty kilometers of daily-groomed skate ski and cross country tracks wind through the forests and along lake shores.

What does Stillwater Mountain Lodge have that few other nordic centers offer? 3.5 kilometers of dog-friendly trail, so you can experiment with ski-joring or take your wound-up pooch out for some winter exercise.

Stillwater’s terrain will challenge you as a nordic skier with nine black diamond trails, seven blue square trails, and three green trails. A day pass for an adult costs $15/$10 for youth, or buy a season pass for $67 per adult, or $135 per family. Multiday passes are also available. If you stay in Stillwater’s beautiful, new, wood-paneled lodge (complete with kitchen, outdoor hot tub, and sauna), you ski free.

Snowshoeing and off-trail ski options are also available, leading to impressive vistas. Just stay off the groomed nordic trails unless you’re skiing.
