Re: “House race takes its most bizarre turn yet with Gianforte’s alleged assault of reporter

With any luck Trump will hire Gianforte to be press secretary and get him to return to where he came. Get the special election going again. Alas, a tyrantosuarus does live amongst us and now represents our great state.

Montana election laws apply to congressional delegations. Montana is one of the only states to allow this. The criteria are narrow, but a clever person could make a case for most. Change the charges from simple assault, a demeanor (sp?) to felony assault, and boom..there you go.

(1) Any person holding a public office of the state or any of its political subdivisions, either by election or appointment, is subject to recall from office.

(2) A public officer holding an elective office may be recalled by the qualified electors entitled to vote for the elective officer's successor. A public officer holding an appointive office may be recalled by the qualified electors entitled to vote for the successor or successors of the elective officer or officers who have the authority to appoint a person to that position.

(3) Physical or mental lack of fitness, incompetence, violation of the oath of office, official misconduct, or conviction of a felony offense enumerated in Title 45 are the only grounds for recall. A person may not be recalled for performing a mandatory duty of the office that the person holds or for not performing any act that, if performed, would subject the person to prosecution for official misconduct. History: En. Sec. 2, I.M. No. 73, approved November 2, 1976; amd. Sec. 3, Ch. 364, L. 1977; R.C.M. 1947, 59-612; amd. Sec. 1, Ch. 398, L. 1979; amd. Sec. 109, Ch. 61, L. 2007.

Montana election laws apply to congressional delegations.

Re: “A conservative group put UM historian Tobin Miller Shearer on 'Professor Watchlist.' To Shearer, the threat sounds awfully familiar.

I am reading "Dark Money" by Jane Mayer. She describes how conservatives have created "think tanks" to propagate the dangerous ideas that lead to these types of "watchlists". It's very frightening to me. I'm encouraged by Mr. Shearer's brave stance. I believe all of us rational people need to work harder to fight the terrifying right-wing, anti-science agenda. Thanks for posting this article. It's a real eye-opener.

The Democrats haven't been this pissed off (because of the Trump win) since the Republicans ended slavery in 1865

Re: “Muddy the waters: Ken Ham, Greg Gianforte, and the creationist assault on science in Montana

Creationism is nothing to do with the biblical Creation belief .... its just phony science.

No Christian should hitch his religion to a pack of lies that pretends to be science.

Re: “Ever wonder how Ryan Zinke is spending your time?

Stinke Zinke is doing exactly what he has done since he left his former life with the USN. Photo ops and Kodak moments. He was AWOL as our congressional rep for so long, we just kinda were hoping he'd gone away, being that Trump didn't choose him as a running mate. Big talk, little delivery. Next on his agenda will be to sell off Alaska and the Colorado river (Grand Canyon) native lands to the highest bidder, perhaps China?

Zinke is almost as big of a hypocrite and scumbag as his boss, Drumpf.

I am hoping for an end to the relentless phone calls from the GOP Trump/Zinke/Giantforte! Give me back my peace and quiet!

Re: “A seemingly endless election cycle finally comes to a finish

The last 3 or 4 paragraphs finally go around to talking about something substantive : Health care.

The reason - obviously - practically no members of either the repuglikan nor dimacrap branch of our one, dominate corporate-controlled party is willing to even consider universal/single payer health care is because they purposefully ignore the fact that they're (theoretically) elected to serve the "real" people's interests, not the interests of corporate "artificial people".

If they'd put the interests of humans ahead of corporations, we'd have had universal single payer health care decades ago.

Seems the only candidate who's been lawful and orderly in this race is Mark Wicks.

Re: “From coffee to Wi-Fi, medical marijuana branches out

This is so wonferful that we are actually getting change done for the health and wellness of the people.so sad that so many judges have locked up good family people and then went down to the corner lounge and drank until they should have had a driver.Sick that we look up to creeps that dont live like they preach! .......About all those dead babies and women found under the vatican........WOW......how that got swept under the rug? Serious stuff. The owner of the boys and girls club in libby mt is a 3 time fellon and has a crew of men he pays under the table so they dont have to pay child support. Now i consider that a crime, dont you?

Re: “Ever wonder how Ryan Zinke is spending your time?

Another example of trying to dig up dirt when none exists. Too bad you didn't dig into all of Hillary Clinton's REAL dirt. Another example of the extreme bias, but then again, when 93% of news media people who contributed money in the last election, gave to Hillary, what would we expect??. No bias here, right???

Re: “How—and why—Missoula progressives could reclaim guns for the left

This writing is gross, and absolutely illegitimate as an argument for gun ownership. Some have already said it but I will repeat : This article is nothing but fear-mongering.

Scaring people into buying guns will certainly not accomplish "prevention of violence," as stated by this article.

This Independent reader is disgusted and disappointed.

Do better.

How about not running or shooting this kid? He's not wielding the gun at you. Why not say, "Don't shoot and walk away?"

Re: “How—and why—Missoula progressives could reclaim guns for the left

It is refreshing to hear the media realize the threat of the alt-right. Liberals of all areas need to radicalize in these times and be ready for these fascists, who have no coyness towards violence. "Leftist gun culture" needs to lose it's oxymoronic connotation.

Re: “How—and why—Missoula progressives could reclaim guns for the left

Excuse but it is very clear with thousands of proof that this article is full of it! Fake news and dishonest! "alt-right groups continue to exacerbate tensions, engaging in public fist fights with anti-fascists" There are thousands of articles, with no spin at all to them, that shows and proves the opposite of this article! The Missoulian is fake news!
