Re: “Zinke announces final delisting rule for Yellowstone grizzlies

Wolves and Grizzlies are listed as species of Least Concern by the highly recognized International Environmental Organization IUCN.. Do you think it is ethical to fall to the whims of anti-hunting groups disguises as Environmental groups and spend 75 to 80 percent of our Federal Endangered Species resources on JUST WOLVES and Grizzlies(outside aquatic and plant species). The abuse of the ESA needs to stop and the rich welfare lawyers that benefit in big numbers need to be held accountable?

Re: “City cuts a check, takes ownership of Missoula's water system

I would title the story, "At What Price?". The Mayor was either an idiot or pretended to be an idiot (when it comes to his cost prediction). Missoula is famous for being so expensive by Montana standards, that most take for granted when their children become adults, they will need to move to some place where they can more afford it, with a job that pays enough to live well. It starts with a premise that Missoula has to grow. If the debate starts from a position like that, and if you are against metro styled living with ghetto neighborhoods and loads of poor people who will never afford the city, you can't even say anything. Add all the other costs piled on to the Water Company take over like this story mentioned. Seems pretty crazy for a city of our size obligated to so much debt and mostly getting money from property taxes and limited payers.

Re: “Inside Gianforte’s election night party, or: How Montana Republicans learned to stop worrying and love the ‘body slam’

I love the part about Robert Crumley being supportive of someone breaking the law. He has done it himself a couple of times in Gallatin County. He recently plead guilty to a DUI in Justice Court, and has one pending in City Court. Plus he has a prior DUI, possibly a baby DUI, from out of state. I guess when your in the GOP its ok to break the law and assault people or drive drunk and possibly kill someone.

Re: “City cuts a check, takes ownership of Missoula's water system

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming months and next couple of years. The mayor has been stepping on his tongue through the whole process. Lawyers fees will only be $ 400,000 they are now in the millions. How is the lost tax revenue going to be replaced and no rate increase until 2021, riiiight.

Re: “Zinke announces final delisting rule for Yellowstone grizzlies

This is a travesty ! Of course, I'd expect nothing less from Ryan Zinke and rest of the Drumpf gang of incompetent idiots, fanatics and scam artists.

Re: “Engstrom to earn $119K next year as UM professor

lets see if I have this right--UM fires Engstrom who drove UM in to the ground in less then 5 years..they hire him back to teach entry level classes when he has not been in the classroom for more then 25 years...at the same time UM is laying off faculty and staff..makes perfect sense!

Re: “Engstrom to earn $119K next year as UM professor

DoYourHomework...thanks for putting up that link.

I dug into that 190-page budget and found the 122 highest-paid professors and the 25 highest-paid administrators.

I've put that information in an easy-to-read report, which you can find here:

Re: “Engstrom to earn $119K next year as UM professor

Thanks for the link, DoYourHomework. Nice name, too.

When I tried to do an analysis last fall, I noticed that those budget books were no longer directly accessible on the website. A university official told me at the time that they wouldn't be posting the full budget book anymore. I'm still struggling to find a link for any past budget books on the fiscal affairs web page, but it's good to know the FY 16 one is still live (of course, FY 17 ends in two weeks). I'm told the state higher ed office is building a system-wide database with this information that will eventually be accessible online. Not sure about UM's latest plans.

Best,
Derek

Re: “Engstrom to earn $119K next year as UM professor

FY 2015-2016 faculty salaries are readily accessible, even if UM hasn't released a similar document for FY 2016-2017. http://www.umt.edu/fiscal-affairs-budget/documents/FY16_Book_FINALv2.pdf

Re: “Big Sky students want to change the conversation about climate change

It is encouraging to me that high school students ARE interested in the big political issues in the
world today.

My personal viewpoint is that climate change is occurring, that the activities of humans are responsible for the acceleration in warming, and that the issue to be decided is how much we want to sacrifice our economic well-being to combat warming, recognizing that the "we" is different in developed, developing, and undeveloped nations.
