Alberton Gorge

I paddled the Gorge yesterday with my daughter Cree and Bill. We ran the lower section from Triple Bridges to the kayak take out. While running the bike shuttle I pedaled with another fellow who pointed out that the new construction by Zoo Town Surfers is a new exit being built there at Crystal Springs. I had heard about that possibility as the old bridges crossing the Clark Fork both at triple bridges and Cyr are in disrepair. Hopefully they will not destroy the bridges but leave them intact for biking and walking as the shuttle now by bike is really nice compared to anything that would have to be done on the Interstate.

The water level is a good one for a couple of the waves especially the Gouda hole above Fang. Tumbleweed is still packing a punch. I was able to catch the Fang wave in Bill's Dagger Axiom but it was still a bit pushy for the Superstar. Cree did really well running all the lines flawlessly and floating right through Tumbleweed. It was good for her to see a number of other gals out on the river yesterday as well as quite a few other boaters. With blue skies and warm temps it was a perfect way to spend the Labor Day afternoon. Folks were having fun in rafts, duckies, and kayaks. All that was missing was a canoe or two. We watched a few cliff jumpers huck it at Fang cliff and shared our lunch with loads of yellowjackets at the rocks below Fang. The take out ladder is still in disrepair and gaining the steps is difficult these days. We talked about how a work crew could put in a trail there in a matter of hours given permissions and some tools. Bill said he would talk to some people at FWP and see what the story there is.
