Get the steak taste out: Griz have one last "Shining Moment"

By and large, the Montana Grizzlies kicked butt this season. Dating back to 2011-12, they won a school-record 25 straight conference games and finished the season with a 19-1 Big Sky record. They hosted the conference tournament and beat Weber State in the championship game in front of 7,000 faithful. The next day, when the NCAA announced March Madness brackets, CBS analyst Seth Davis picked UM to upset the Syracuse Orange in the first round of the tournament.

It was a bad pick. The Griz didn't just lose a basketball game. They were so overwhelmed by the Orange—at one point they trailed by 50—that the loss seemed to undo the tournament bid, as though Montana should never have made it that far in the first place. Any Griz fan who watched that game will attest to the sour taste it left in their mouth.

When my girlfriend's grandfather was ready for dessert, he used to say, "I need something to get the steak taste out." It didn't matter if he had eaten steak or how tasty the dinner was. The point was that he wanted to end his evening on a sweet note.

Last night, after Louisville downed Michigan in the national championship game, after the net was cut down, the trophies and awards presented, and the coach and star players interviewed, CBS aired its annual "One Shining Moment" video, a montage of highlights and memorable moments from the tournament.

There were no highlights of Griz players sinking 3-pointers (they missed 27 of them against Syracuse), but the video did open with a nod to Griz Nation. It's less than a second long, but it's a reminder that Montana was a part of March Madness too. It's enough to get the steak taste out.
