U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tackle milfoil problem in Montana reservoir
Eurasian milfoil has established 70 colonies on the 134-mile-long Fort Peck Reservoir in Montana since it was first reported in 2010, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is testing two different herbicides on the invasive aquatic weed.

Alberta's largest private forestry company is putting a $42-million biogas plant at its pulp mill in Whitecourt that will generate 5.2 megawatts of power when it goes online next year.

With federal protection removed, Wyoming's wolf hunt begins Oct. 1
Last Friday, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that wolves in Wyoming would be removed from the federal endangered species list as of Sept. 30, allowing Wyoming's wolf hunt to go forward as scheduled on Oct. 1.

Groups sue USFS over motorized travel ban in Idaho wilderness study area
The Blue Ribbon Coalition and the Idaho Snowmobile Association filed a lawsuit against the Clearwater National Forest for its travel plan that bans motorcycles, off-road vehicles, snowmobiles and mountain bikes in a wilderness study area on the Idaho-Montana border.

Idaho wildfires make stubborn stand
While crews in Oregon gained ground over the long holiday weekend on the wildfires burning in that state, three large wildfires in Idaho proved to be more stubborn, with the Halstead fire just 7 percent contained, the Trinity Ridge Fire 30 percent contained, and the Mustang Complex, which has burned from Idaho into Montana, now at 329 square miles.

The Federal Joint Review Panel public hearing on Enbridge's Northern Gateway pipeline project, proposed to carry oil from Alberta's oilsands region to a port on British Columbia's coast, will reconvene today in Edmonton.
