Missoula Colony 17: Act 1

Posted By on Fri, Jul 13, 2012 at 12:15 PM

Here's a great way to beat the summer heat: go sit in a theater, and I don't mean in front of the newest Ice Age movie. It's time again for Missoula Colony, the annual "gathering of artists in support of the writer's craft," brought to you by the Montana Repertory Theatre. For the uninitiated, that means staged readings of plays-in-progress by local and visiting bards. For the veterans, sorry to announce Roger Hedden won't have anything new and hilarious for us this year. Running from July 14-21, the seventeenth-annual Colony takes place at the Montana Theatre Stage in the PARTV Center on campus. It's that cool-looking building on your right just as sixth street hits the Adams Center.

In addition to 10 long and 8 short plays, there are a few workshops aimed at honing your writing Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Between now and Act 2, you should catch the event's two musicals, Cathy Capp's The Dirty Old Lady Show and Amy Martin's Reserve & Green. Monday will start the Missoula Stories Project at 3 p.m., featuring four short local-flavor plays and Larke Schuldberg's Missed Connection at 8. For tickets and more info call 243-6809 and don't miss the full schedule here.
