Tonight at Zoo City Apparel: Kind of Like Spitting

Posted By on Wed, Jun 13, 2012 at 12:15 PM

These guys really bring me back to that moment when I found out what emo actually was — something loud and passionate, lyrically sensitive and sonically abrasive. Think Jawbreaker, Braid and The Promise Ring. Real '90s stuff. Which makes sense, because Kind of Like Spitting started out of Portland, Ore., in 1996. Lead guy Ben Barnett recently reformed the band to take on tour through the spring, and it seems totally legit: Barnett already recorded a new song and posted it to his tumblr. Even better, they'll be stopping at Zoo City Apparel tonight at 8 PM with some other rad guests. Wyoming's Out of Character and locals The Whoopass Girls and Cat Heaven open. It's $5, all-ages, and c'mon, it's Wednesday. Treat yourself to some nostalgia or get formally introduced, it's going to get sweet.

Here's an old one:

And here they are live in Portland in March:
