MisCon makes it into Rolling Stone

Posted By on Mon, Jun 4, 2012 at 11:35 AM

Organizers of Missoula's sci-fi convention counted on bigger crowds and more exposure with this year's guest of honor, author George R.R. Martin. But a piece in Rolling Stone? That's big time for an intimate regional Con.

Nick Romeo followed Martin around the Memorial Day weekend event, and levels a few jabs at MisCon security while recounting some of Martin's sardonic quotes at a Q&A session. Martin's funny. Here's another example from the article:

At one convention a fan asked him to write a marriage proposal. He pointed out to the young man that if he wrote "Will you marry me?" it might seem as if he, George R.R. Martin, were proposing. So instead he wrote Mary, will you marry John? At a room party that night, John presented the book to Mary, whose response was something along the lines of, "Are you out of your fucking mind?" They had met only two days before.

Celebrating Martin's appearance is all well and good, and Rolling Stone will certainly help future attendance. In fact, MisCon is already looking ahead. Preparations for next year's MisCon 27 are underway.
