For a bid, Bob Wire will give you the hat off his head

Posted By on Fri, Jun 1, 2012 at 12:00 PM

Bob Wire has been wearing his classic cowboy hat onstage for about 8 years now. The honky tonker who's haunted the Union Club with his rockin' sound—a little bit of Elvis, a little bit of Robbie Fulks—and his cheeky attitude is giving it up for a good cause.

The hat is on the Facebook auction block in support of Catherine Dixon, an artist who has been involved in the theater scene here and in Virginia City, and painted the Wilma lobby ceiling when it was recently renovated. She's on recovery road, but Wire's trying to scrape up some bones for support. (Even if you don't want the hat, you can donate via paypal).

Wire's hat sports the signatures of some of his favorite musicians: The Bottlerockets, Marshall Crenshaw, the Marshall Tucker Band, Tim Ryan, Sonny LeMaire and local faves like Tom Catmull and Shane Clouse. Highest bidder gets the well-worn hat and a boxset of Bob Wire's albums including one of our favorites, Sentimental Breakdown.
