Flywheel project at Montana power plant on hold
The Massachusetts company that contracted with NorthWestern Power to install innovative technology to store power at its new power plant in Anaconda said spending restrictions imposed on the company by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court will keep the Montana project on hold, but Beacon Power Corp. officials said they intend to complete the installation when they can.

Colorado Oil and Gas Commission approves rules on hydraulic fracturing
The Colorado Oil and Gas Commission met today in Denver and approved new regulations that require companies that use hydraulic fracturing to provide information about what chemicals are used in the drilling process, and if those companies cite trade secrets to keep from disclosing that information, they have to explain why that information must be protected.

Idaho mine an issue in fight for control of Canadian mining company
Next week, shareholders of Mosquito Consolidated Gold Mines will meet in Toronto to elect a board of directors of the mining company that owns the large CuMo molybdenum and copper project in the Boise Basin in Idaho, the development of which has created two factions within the Canadian company.

Proposed federal law could push bicyclists off roads in Wyoming park
A federal transportation spending bill would make it mandatory that bicyclists use paved paths in any areas of federal lands where such paths exist within 100 yards of a road where the speed limit is 30 mph or higher, and bicyclists that ride in Wyoming's Grand Teton National Park and other parks are opposing the plan.

Hunting, fishing group sue USFS over Colorado travel plan
The Backcountry Hunters and Anglers filed a lawsuit in federal court in Colorado earlier this month against the U.S. Forest Service, alleging that the travel management plan for the San Juan National Forest, which allows off-road vehicle use on 80 miles of 14 trails in the Rico-West Dolores travel-management area, illegally authorizes the use of motorcycles on those trails.

Montana ski area's expansion plans source of low ranking
The Ski Area Citizens' Coalition's annual environmental report card on ski areas in the nation gave Montana Snowbowl low marks, primarily due to the resort's expansion plans that it has been pursuing for nearly a decade.
