Brooklyn filmmakers shoot Montana life

Posted By on Thu, Apr 1, 2010 at 12:02 PM

Here's a soundtrack you would never expect to accompany Missoula's Dogpound Fight Team. The song, "Blue Flag" is by Boston band Glorytellers, and the film is by Brooklyn, N.Y. filmmakers Matt Cascella and Corey Gegner.

In February, Cascella and Gegner spent a few weeks in town filming a documentary featuring punk band Goddammitboyhowdy. They found out about the band through a 2008 Indy feature story called Reservation Rock. In between shooting rock shows and interviews of lead singer Joey Running Crane, the pair took to the streets to create short films of life in the Garden City—and beyond.

Though the feature documentary is still in the works, some of the short films are available on the filmmakers' blogspot for your viewing pleasure. The short shorts run just a few minutes each and profile local people and places including dobro player Andy Dunnigan playing music in his kitchen, ice fishermen Ted, Dick and Don telling stories on Georgetown Lake, and 90 year-old artist Bill Ohrmann at the Ohrmann Museum and Gallery in Drummond, who the Indy featured in a May 2009 story.
