Week in Review: Budget woes, snow and Tiger's Missoula girl

Posted By on Fri, Dec 4, 2009 at 4:00 PM

Baby, it's cold outside. No kidding, Sherlock, I know. But still, for someone who just got back from Arizona — where former Flathead QB Brock Osweiler is buried further on the depth chart than Tom Cruise in All The Right Moves — this weather can be quite the shock.

Maybe there's something warm and comforting in this week's news.

The Associated Press' Matt Gouras offers two sobering pieces this week: the state budget is in disarray and a growing number of state lawmakers are breaking largely ignored ethics laws.

The indomitable J-girl at 4&20 is all over the important Otter Creek Mine issue.

Jay Stevens at Left in the West tackles"climategate".

This is from two weeks back, but Intelligent Discontent has an interesting post about how a Lee Newspapers editor hunted down an anonymous online commenter.

Infamous Missoula native and alleged Tiger mistress Kalika Moquin swears she wasn't one of the girls who saw Woods take his putter out of his bag. But Us Weekly continues to quote a friend close to Moquin who says she's simply being modest.

I think there's a football game tomorrow in Missoula, but don't forget about tonight's hockey game and the weekend hoops action, as well.

And, lastly, your top three stories from the world of alternative newsweeklies:
1. The Colorado Springs Independent profiles Story of Stuff creator Annie Leonard. You may remember that online film caused quite a stir in Missoula this year.
2. East Bay Express puts Chevron in the crosshairs.
3. Willamette Week will make you think twice about buying those feel-good compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Stay warm out there.
