Local conservationists and foodies praised the senator for his amendment protecting small producers in the Food Safety Modernization Act, a bill signed into law Tuesday. Without his amendment, Tester believes small farmers would have suffered. “There would have been a lot of producers who would have just said, ‘Hey, this just isn’t worth it,’” he said.
