Spring Meadow Lake is a 30-acre spring-fed lake on the western outskirts of Helena, for which its deep, clear waters serve as an urban oasis for summertime splashers.
Introduced trout, bass, and sunfish keep kiddie cork-tossers happy, and some 75 species of bird keep afternoon birders busy. Come winter, a hard freeze can turn Spring Meadow Lake into an ice skating rink.
During the summer months, the park hosts educational interpretive programs. Call (406) 495-3260 for the schedule.
And because the lake is so popular with frolicking locals, please note the following pet restrictions: Leash required Oct. 15 through April 15; pets prohibited April 16 through Oct. 14.
