Sizing up Missoula’s “celebration” of local music

For the past three weeks The Other Side has been host to a “celebration of local music” in search of Montana’s “Pabst Blue Ribbon Band of the Year,” all the while going to great lengths to avoid labeling the ongoing event a “battle of the bands.” Whatever. After the final six bands take the stage Thursday, Feb. 16, starting at 8 PM, a winner will be crowned, bragging rights will be authorized and some group will take home $1,000. Sounds like a battle to us, and in the interest of serving our readers with the most complete information on any competitive artistic event where cold hard cash is at stake—and when the final lineup includes some of Missoula’s most notorious bands—we’ve sized up the competition. Or, rather, we’ve let them size themselves. Here’s the tale of the tape for the final round of PBR’s friendly, noncompetitive, we’re-all-winners-here non-battle of the bands:
