McDonald Peak Trip
Sat., May 26, Sun., May 27 and Mon., May 28 2012
Join the Rocky Mountaineers on a Memorial Day Weekend trip to climb McDonald Peak in the Mission Mountains. They'll approach from the Mission Valley side, by driving (as close as possible) to the Ashley Lake trailhead (4600'). The route will traverse 4 miles on trail to Lower Ashley Lake (5200'), bushwack to the head of Upper Ashley Lake, and follow Ashley Creek up to Ashley Basin (8000'). That's where they'll set up camp and hopefully have plenty of time to climb McDonald's south face and explore the area, on Day 2, including drainages leading to the east and south. McDonald's south face is moderate angled snow, and will not require technical climbing skills, but crampons will be required for safe footing to summit the peak.
Equipment: Skis or snowshoes, crampons.
A CSKT Recreation / Camping Permit is required.
