Lubrecht Experimental Forest is a 28,000-acre outdoor learning center jointly managed by the University of Montana's Forest and Conservation Experiment Station and the state's Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. Fee facilities available for public use include a conference center, lodge and cabin rentals, a recreation hall and picnic pavilion, and on-site food service. Lubrecht is a popular wedding site in the temperate seasons.
The heaviest public use of Lubrecht, though, occurs in the winter, when 25 miles of cross-country and skate-ski trails—from beginner-friendly through intermediate to difficult—provide glide access to the property's forests, meadows, and lakes. Enjoy almost 7 miles of beginner trails, 11+ miles of intermediate, and almost 8 miles of most difficult terrain.
The Missoula Nordic Ski Club grooms the trails and posts online updates on their condition here. Dogs are allowed (but pick up after them, please) and donations are appreciated but not required.
