This summit is a highpoint on the ridge between El Capitan and the Como Peaks. Because it’s difficult to reach and even tougher to climb, few have reached the apex of the remote backcountry Lonesome Bachelor (9,185’).
The best routes begin at the Little Rock Creek Trailhead and follow the long-established trail to Little Rock Creek Lake. Go around the north side of the lake, using trails where they exist, then bushwhack southwest up the canyon to the small lakes at the base of El Capitan. Scramble (Class 3) on a mix of boulders, talus, and scree up the southernmost couloir to the crest of the southeast ridge.
Once on the ridge-crest, turn left and scramble east-southeast toward Lonesome Bachelor. Traverse the south side of peak’s west ridge to the south ridge. There is more than one path to the summit but most follow the south ridge and include Class 5 climbing. Most choose to rappel from the small summit during descent.
