On Saturday, Oct. 5, we put out an open call to anyone and everyone, from iPhone shooters to seasoned professionals, to photograph a typical day in Missoula. We had no idea what to expect. Really, we just hoped enough people would partake so we could curate an inspiring and contemplative visual celebration of the city we call home. Then came the hard part. We had to select the top photos based on composition, creativity and overall execution, and compile them for this week's issue. Eighteen images made the final cut.
The Westboro Baptist Church arrived at the Montana State University campus in Bozeman Sept. 9 to protest the university's failure to prepare students "for the final day of judgment". An estimated 1,500 people greeted the three church members with a counter-protest, first on campus and again later at Bozeman High School.
The Lolo Creek Complex fire started by lightning on Sun., Aug. 18 and has burned over 10,800 acres and destroyed five homes. While the evacuation order for residents along Hwy 12 was lifted Sat. Aug. 24, an evacuation warning remains in effect. The fire is currently 60% contained.
