You think we’re going Bill Clinton here. But as neat as it was to see Slick Willie slip into the Mo Club for an evening of washing away his wife’s then-near-toasted campaign, you could make the argument that, really, his late-night appearance was about as predictable as seeing a hippie at Hemp Fest. In the weeks leading up to the state’s June 3 primary, you couldn’t swing a dead cat in this town without hitting a politician or her husband hounding our favorite haunts. I mean, Bill practically paid the monthly rate at his local hotel.
That’s why we’re going with a slightly lower key sighting from around the same time. The venerable Brent Musberger, who was raised near Billings and owns a home up the Bitterroot, could be seen sipping suds at the Kettlehouse, all nonchalant-like and mostly anonymous, on May 14. The legendary sportscaster—he covered the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals and NCAA basketball championship for CBS, and now covers college sports for ESPN and ABC—fit right in, save for wearing a suit and his signature downtrodden expression. A source says he ordered an Eddy Out after learning the I.P.A. was out of stock. We could not confirm reports, however, that he dropped his signature on-air phrase by declaring, “Folks, this beer will be a dandy.”
