Worden’s, which first opened in 1890, has dedicated itself to wine for over a century. The selection isn’t the largest in town, but it’s a thoughtful and eclectic collection hand-picked by the market’s knowledgeable staff. “If it’s on the shelf, we’ve staked our reputation on it,” says owner Tim France.
France can make such a claim because Chris Niswanger, aka “The Wine Guy,” has been purchasing the store’s wine for 30 years. Niswanger and Alan Nielsen, whom France says have an “encyclopedic knowledge” when it comes to the technical aspects of wine, serve as gurus when it comes to choosing the perfect bottle for a swanky party or your last-minute spaghetti dinner.
