You love his witty barbs and barstool wisdom, often plastered on a prominent whiteboard next to the television for everyone to read. You love his taproom playlist, even when—or especially when—it's heavy on the Gourds. You love that he actually remembers your name, even though that's so cliché. You love that he hates clichés. You love his running commentary on and steadfast support of the local music scene, Midwestern sports teams and, like any true Missoulian, the things that make this town tick. You especially love the Kettlehouse beer he pours, but even if you didn't you'd still seek out those few slow afternoons when you could find an empty stool at the bar and catch up with the man. You love Al Pils for any of these reasons, and more, and that's what makes this award all his this year.
