      <![CDATA[Back in the days when UM was better-known for Leslie Fiedler, its radical counter-culture, Rhodes Scholars, and others who excelled in their later political and professional lives, they had a very poor football team. Some of us warned that emphasizing sports like football could only harm the greater intellectual and cultural community.
