      <![CDATA[I know this is late but I just found this article. If Maclay's original plans had been approved, would I still be able to hike, bushwhack ski, fish, hunt, and just experience Lolo Peak on my own after his ski runs and lifts were built?

      <![CDATA[It's unfortunate that these vocal locals got into the Forest Service and prevented this local owner from developing jobs in the valley. Instead of keeping ownership in the valley with the Maclay's it's now at risk of being run by some conglomerate like Intrawest or Boyne that could swoop in and buy it up.

      <![CDATA[The ski runs Maclay cut (and that can be seen from Missoula) are on his private land, and not on "wilderness" Forest Service land, as some comments here have stated. Maclay was obviously not smart about his plans.

      <![CDATA[This is so sad. I can see both sides' points, but it's hard to look at the cleared runs from Missoula and not think that Maclay was trying to hedge his bets at the expense of the forest.
