The Humane Society of Western Montana held its annual spay/neuter clinic inside Alberton's school gymnasium last weekend. The two-day clinic included two veterinarians and a dozen volunteers "fixing" 200 cats and 80 dogs — as well as Indy photographer Cathrine L. Walters capturing their efforts.…

Last weekend marked the third annual Seeley Lake Pond Hockey Tournament, a post-New Years tourism bump for the tiny Montana town organized by local hockey-buddy duo Mike Lindemer and Tom Monaghan. The event, which went down Jan. 2-4 on the ice behind Lindey's Steakhouse, drew some 150 players and dozens of spectators.…

Steele Williams, 1987-2012

The Indy learned last week that recent photo intern and former University of Montana photojournalism student Steele Williams had died in Jackson, Wyo. He was 25.

During his internship in late 2011 and earlier this year, Steele supplied dozens of photographs for all sections of the newspaper.…

They hold their arms semi-bent in front of their bodies in an unnatural manner—faces vacant—and they move in odd, sometimes beautiful ways as if they were super-robots (who only just look like humans) in a Minority Report-style.…
