I realize that coyotes can be a huge problem in rural areas because I had a bf once who had several of his cats killed because they ran free on his rural Oklahoma farm to keep the snake population down, but surely there is a more humane way to go about it?

I agree. He should have locked up his cats to prevent them from getting killed. He just kinda started freaking out b/c the coyotes kept coming closer and closer and twice he woke up with snakes in his house, once in his bed. That's why he got the cats. although I am an animal lover, I would have freaked out too, under the circumstances. I like snakes, but from a distance! Certainly not in my bed:(
