Re: “Wolf worries

Times have changed and trapping no longer fits in. There was a day when we as society did trap. However.... we did not understand the complexity nature. Now we have a more complex view & understanding of the relationships and this fragile balance.
Trapping must end!

Now lets touch on the ethical cloud that smothers trapping like smoke currently is doing in the Bitterroot Valley. I too attended this trapping class. The instructor (Jeff Ashmead) was Wildlife Services out of Idaho. He mentioned on several occasions broken bones and missing toes. Why is Wildlife Services required to check traps every twenty four hours? Why is it Montana trappers who tell us they respect wildlife fight tooth & nail against a mandatory forty eight hour trap check? Why was the suggestion made during this course that trappers control the shameful pictures of their capture? Why was it suggested that trappers place their "Prized " wolf catch in a plastic bag and carry it out? Where is the fair chase" Where is the quick kill that so many ethical hunters strive to obtain? Where is the respect for wildlife? Trapping must end!

I for one will do every thing in my power to advance the mandated end to trapping of wolves in Montana, Idaho & Wyoming. This will be accomplished via education and persistence! Bottom line is trapping is not a tradition as some would have you believe...its barbaric as my good friend Kim Bean has told the Montana Fish Wildlife & Parks Commissioners as recently as yesterday. Trapping must end!
