While I may not agree with using hands-on discipline or necessarily agree with the system Pinehaven uses; it is not an awful place for these kids. I have had friends who have been houseparents, children of the houseparents, as well as the program directors and friends who have been sent there. Of course there might be resistance to the program depending on the individual child, they won't like being set under the strict rule-system. As far as James Mason's blogs and claims, he is a fake and seemingly fabricates claims for personal satisfaction. Regarding claims made about abuse, the leaders and directors there are trained to observe and inquire about any suspicious activity. Unfortunately, some people are so deceptive and manipulative it is hard for others to honestly know what might be happening. Any program like this, especially dealing with children, is taught and trained to report any abusive claims, sexual or physical, or deal with a federal offense. Along with this, leaders there may still be working on a Master's license of some kind, but it is legal to work in programs such as this with, for instance, a BA(undergrad) in Counseling/Therapy/Social Services. All of the precautions that take place at Pinehaven are very similar to any other children's home program. For example, checking people at the property lines, or searching through personal gifts, or listening in on conversations, being taken off medication. Depending on the individual's background, any harmful thing or system is trying to be removed from their life, to get them help. Just as an alcoholic or drug addict may have an intervention, or victim of sex trafficking is removed from their situation, usually not able to have contact with loved ones, this is practiced at Pinehaven, though not to that extreme. If something in an individual's life is causing negative results, it is better to stop all potential factors and work at sifting through what was good and bad. I could go on, but won't. I am disappointed that Pinehaven has been publicly slandered through media, and sources that shouldn't are being trusted. God's purpose remains. hopefully, anyone who cares enough will do the smart thing and research, get to know the program and successes it has.
