My name is Katie and I was a houseparent kid from 1993-1996. However, we didn't live on the ranch, but rather in town, in a house that Pinehaven purchased (Lifehouse), for unwed pregnant teens. I know kids who were helped by Pinehaven but many who suffered abuse of any variety. There were indeed some good houseparents who genuinely cared about the kids and I am grateful they were there. I also know that my own parents endured a lot of intimidation and bullying from the Larsons (Andy, Deb, Bob) whenever my parents resisted something they felt was unethical. Ultimately, my parents couldn't tolerate the unethical nature of the Larsons practices so we quit and moved to Missoula, 2 years later. Neither my parents nor I ever witnessed physical abuse firsthand, but I do know stories and did witness verbal abuse, intimidation and also some medical neglect. They need reform. There is no accountability nor any psychological experts there to help guide and care for kids who really need it.
