wait a second, is that a Hurricane in the top photo? if so, I think this post begs a follow-up on how you get a sleeping bag and five days worth of stuff into the stern of that thing. long live the 'Cane!
well, funny you should ask... haha. i'm new in town myself and just found this through a friend. to get to Lolo National Forest, leave Missoula on Brooks St, turn R onto the Lewis & Clark Hwy 12, travel about 35 minutes and start looking for pull-outs on the right. there should be some with easy-to-spot skin tracks (mostly within 1-2 miles of the Idaho border).
there is also a facebook page called "UM Backcountry Club" that also has regular trips and folks to meet up with -- that's worth a look as well.
