Re: “At the MPG Ranch, a watchful eye on the wild

I reckon if all the buyers of Public Lands were going to conduct themselves like these owners I might not object quite as much-though I worry the next generation may not have the love of the land this one has and subdivide in the end anyway. That said I would far rather forego property taxes on this ranch than any Church owned property. Jesus knew the difference-save your public prayer, this is where God lives...

Re: “News without a view

as a 70's journalism student I learned to expect a lot from daily newspapers. My expectations continue a downward slide that coincides with the conglomeration/corporatism that has gutted American Journalism. At one time I made a point of reading at least two of our state's daily papers every day, cover to cover. I no longer bother. It was predicted that the internet and email would spell doom for the Postal Service, much the same is presumed to be true for print journalism. Online shopping turned doom to boom for USPS; not counting the 75 year pre-payment fiasco inflicted by Congress the Post Office has had multi-billion dollar surpluses for the past four years. Some more intelligent thinking could do the same turn-around for Print Media.

Re: “Justice

another victim of the War on Drugs. The law did 10X the damage to people lives the drugs ever did. My first offense marijuana possession of less than 24 grams at age of 43 cost me my business, my home and my marriage and three years of my life, 28 months of that time in solitary confinement. I'm a veteran who already had mental issues and trust me, the solitary confinement IS Cruel and, unfortunately not all that unusual, punishment. It's hard to imagine where we might be today if we had decided to treat drug abuse as the medical problem it is in 1972 instead of blowing $2Trillion on the failed penal approach. I know I personally would be so far ahead of where I am now it's incredible. And Mills Lane would be just another Professional Wrestling referee. He used the law to punish me when I refused to surrender to his extortion and wear a wire to set up some Hells Angels I was remotely acquainted with. He threatened me with 25-40 years Mandatory Minimum if I would not help him. Long story short the Judge decided against him in the end but on the prison time but she did still stick me with a $50,000 fine. The only way I could afford to pay that fine was to become the drug dealer they were accusing me of being. Fortunately in the end the appeals court Judges found the fine to be excessive and threw it out. Still possession of $200 worth of pot ended up costing me well over $150,000 before the whole experience was behind me-not counting lost income. This didn't help anyone-not society, not the Government and not me. I take it back-it helped the Corrections Corporation of America and various other profiteers and it helped Mills Lanes' political career. It sure didn't help the USA.

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

I just love the silly people who try to use the first amendment to defend the use of offensive language and their right to use it. Yes, the 1st amend. protects your right to say it but it also protects my right to point out what a moron you are for using said language. Kinda like the 1st protecting your religion. That doesn't mean you have the right to make me respect your religious views. Just the right to express them. I still have the right to laugh at you for those beliefs. And "free market" principles protects my right to not buy your product if you offend me, not just your right to sell whatever you want. So, go ahead, call yourself redskins, just don't get all defensive when I call you foreskins.

Re: “Far from dead

sure wish I could package this opinion piece-it would no doubt make gardens thrive like never before! Other than that it just shows the amazing state of denial and selective memory of the Tea Party. This guy is a spokesman for one of the largest lobbying organizations in existence and works for the very people who created our massive debt in the first place-according to a plan hatched in the 70's and perpetrated on the American People for 35 years now-Reaganomics, Trickle Down, whatever you want to call it. The plan is the same then as now-cut taxes on the wealthy, reduce regulation on Corporations and give them more and more control over Legislation infringing on Individual Liberty using wedge issues to distract voters as their democracy vanishes. I trust this clown as far as I can throw him. There is very clear evidence-under Democratic control job creation goes up and debt goes down; under Republican rule employment and wages go down while debt&deficit go through the roof-again, according to plan-http://reclaimdemocracy.org/powell_memo_le…

Re: “Freedom Fighter

niam-don't miss the fact that 30% of our police hires since 2000 are former military who are hired without having to pass the POST training which is where you learn what little they teach you about presumed innocence, serving and protecting, excessive force and all that. They end up trying to police like they were in a war. The same but worse applies to CBP-40% of new hires have NO training in police science-even if they were a supply clerk in the Army rather than an MP. The only solution is to end the war on drugs and cut police by 40% and make them return all the military assault equipment we have been buying them.

Re: “Freedom Fighter

I'm left wondering why this Holy Warrior isn't showing up to defend the Shoshone sisters in their battle with BLM and BIA. And like Real American Joe I wonder where all these "militia" members get their financial support since very few of them seem to have jobs. How about the Bundy clan? I look at them and suspect several of them are receiving monthly checks from the Government they hate.
