Norway Maples are an easy foe which is why the Missoula City and Parks Recreation Department have declared war on them rather than on leafy spurge or knapweed. Once cut they are defeated and the battle is won. The City can move on to another immobile adversary. But, not so with spurge or knapweed the real enemies to the city , county and state.
Daniel Geary is a mild, concerned citizen who cares about the minority and unusual whether it be animals, plants or fellow humans. To portray him as eccentric or unreasonable is unfair. Montana should be fighting the battles that really affect the environment.

Daniel Geary is also an excellent writer and essaysist. He should be invited to write an essay on the topic from his perspective.
