Jo, Mike "opened the doors to the community" because it made fiscal sense. Period. If he has helped a few queers along the way, well good for him. I bet he made money in the process.
Besides being run by an owner who discriminates against even DISABLED PEOPLE IN A VETERAN'S BAR*, AmVets is downright disgusting. Hope you enjoy black mold if you decide to venture down.
There are FAR better places in Missoula that are open and truly welcoming to the Queer community: and not just 'cause they want our money. In fact, most of us have long-since moved on. Won't find much gay at that "gay" bar anymore.
AmVets is a dank, dark zoo where straight people come to "gawk at the gays."
Shut 'em down, already!
I worked there a few years back and Mike Might was forcing employees to work when there was a foot of sewer water in AmVets from pipes leaking above.
"Sewage in the Bar? Well, get mopping and turn on the fans, because we're still going to open."
Have to stay open when you make less than $25,000* a year right?
