All I have to say is it's about time that cyclists be given the same consequences for not following the rules of the road as motorists are. I cannot stand people riding their bikes on sidewalks (especially since this town is very bike-friendly) and out into traffic without stopping because they're in a crosswalk. I walk, I ride my bike, I drive my car and my motorcycle and I am always conscious to follow the rules of the road. You shouldn't need to read about enforcement of traffic laws. They're the same as they've always been. Should motorists be "informed" that the police are going to start pulling people over for running stop signs? No, because they should already know that that is a distinct possibility and that if they choose to not obey the rules of the road and they get caught, they will have to pay. I'd really like to see pedestrians who just step off of the curb in the middle of the street and cause people to slam on their brakes and almost create an accident be given tickets as well. It's all about respecting each other, people.
Seriously, Susan, I think you're overreacting. I can understand your ire if he actually got behind the wheel of a car, but you want him charged with a felony for streaking? Really?!?! I do feel for you and the fact that you were almost killed by a drunk driver. But he was streaking, not driving. And you want him branded as a sex offender?! C'mon! That is utterly ridiculous! So some kids saw a naked man. Big deal. I was a kid in the 70s and people streaking across football and baseball fields during a live tv broadcast was a fairly common occurence. It didn't scar me because my parents would laugh it off and make a joke of it, not turn it into a federal offense. I'm sorry, but you need to lighten up.
Correction: The dates for TotalFest IX are August 19th - 21st.
Really?! I think it would be great to have another museum downtown, and it would be nice for the museum collections to be housed all in one place (currently, the museum's collections are housed in several different buildings across campus). But to spend that much money on a "warehouse" when they supposedly can't even afford to give their staff employees a raise is irresponsible. Really UM?!
