Jrob, they don't "decide" to close it. It just breaks down, all the time, year after year, because they have just been too f-in cheap to replace the motor or whatever it is they need to do. its only a matter of time til there is a serious accident on the Griz chair.
Right on! I've skied all over the world, and Snowbowl is the only mtn I know where lift breakdowns and even skier evacuations are a routine part of lift operations. When a chairlift breaks down that often, you really have to question the integrity and safety of the equipment.
Also, a 12 minute chairlift ride can be cold enough-- getting stuck on one for an hour or longer can be downright dangerous, especially for kids.
Bottom line--Snowbowl need to ante up and fix this thing for good and for real-- not just McGyver it each season. I know they have the money because they have been raising lift ticket prices an average of 5 percent a yr, when inflation has only been about 1-2 percent. They need to make lift operations safe for skiers!
