Our state is in the best position to manage it's own wildlife. The ESA is an outdated, overreaching political tool that has been used, as of late, solely for animal rights activists to limit our state's rights. Grizzly bear populations have recovered. The same groups who were suing to provide studies to list bears, are now trying to kill the studies. Why? Because the information being gathered is not to their liking. Grizzlies bear numbers are increasing at a solid annual rate. It is not about science, or law, for most pro listing agencies. (like the one advertising on the site right now, the Alliance for the Wild Rockies)
I'll agree, especially HB 309 that just passed the house today. They need to tone it down. But, next time, cite the bills and use reasoning, instead of using over-broad partisan conclusory statements.
Footloose Montana in a phrase, "there is nothing more frightful than ignorance in action." Trapping on public lands has been banned in many western states. Washington, California, Arizona, to name a few. What is the best part about Montana? Mountains and prairie aside, the fact that Montana IS NOT any one of these states, especially CA, takes the cake. I love many things about western Montana, but the strong desires of the Bitterroot and Flathead valleys to "modernize" Montana will eventually destroy our niche. To say that Footloose Montana is "grassroots" like Walmart is "green". It is simply a stepping stone for animal rights activists, and they are using trapping to get a foothold in our great state. What's next?
