Re: “Student retention: UM's other (other) problem

My experience has not been good. It feels as if the school is doing everything in their power to convolute the registration process & create needless obstacles that delay graduation in order to milk their students financially.
I know it's a business, but at least pretend like you care about your students!

Re: “Republican legislators claim their party's rift is a thing of the past. Now's their chance to prove it.

Today Trump stated two interesting ideas for his Pro-Life backers to mull over.

"We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone." "a child is ... infused with the breath of life by the same almighty Creator."

Perhaps he's referring to Genesis 2-7: "And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life;and man became a living soul."

We will know soon when Trump nominates his choice for the Supreme Court.

Re: “Student retention: UM's other (other) problem

There is a huge problem in the admin office. We have had nothing but troubles for 4 years, same exact problem every semester for 4 year and every time we walk into the office to get it fixed they act like it is the first time it has ever happened in the history of the school. We are not alone. This is why they have a student retention problem.

Re: “Missoula women plan post-inauguration marches in Helena and D.C.

Women are gathering in most of the cities in New Zealand. I want to show that the election of Trump is no permission to trample on human rights. I want to gather strength through working together against inhumanity and bullying.

Re: “Missoula women plan post-inauguration marches in Helena and D.C.

What a bunch of whiny ass, sore losers. Tens of millions hated it when Obama was elected, but they respected the process and didn't act like a bunch of spoiled 8th graders who didn't get their way. Get over it. Give it two years and then whine if you think you are worse off.

Re: “Here's what Ryan Zinke committed to at his confirmation hearing

I continue to believe that being against the transfer or sale of federal public lands might be the lowest of low bar to hope that Zinke would step over. Hard to tell what his position on the matter really is, especially in the context that Trump is establishing the most anti-public lands, anti-environmental administration in history. The Trump Administration is essentially going to be a government for and by Big Oil, and Zinke will fit right in, especially considering he raked in $350,000 in oil, gas and fracking campaign contributions in just a couple of years.

Has anyone ever heard Ryan Zinke speak in favor of the Endangered Species Act? Has he ever once voted to better fund the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which is charged with overseeing ESA issue? Has he voted many times to gut the ESA? Yes.

It's not like Zinke's 3% VOTING record with the League of Conservation voters came out of thin air. And it's not like LCV is some far left group, they are pretty mainstream. Also, he earned an "F" 9% rating from the National Parks Conservation Association, again, a very middle-of-the road group. These voting records were earned based on actual votes, not on some rhetoric or statement.

Oh, yes, but Zinke really likes Teddy Roosevelt. He brought up Teddy at least as many times during his hearing as he brought up being a former Navy Seal. I saw a blog post yesterday in which someone said that if you look honestly at Zinke's real voting record on the 'conservation spectrum' you will find that he is much more closely aligned with someone like Rob Bishop then he's aligned with Teddy Roosevelt.

Groups such as Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (both of whom get Trump money and have, perhaps as a result, seen huge increases in their budgets the past few years) would do well to stop pushing this "Zinke is Teddy reincarnated" BS and be more truthful and straightforward with the American people.

America's public lands, wildlife and wilderness legacy is at threat folks, and if anyone thinks Zinke, and his future boss President Trump, are going to protect (rather than exploit) that legacy is just being delusional.

Here's another good read about the hearing that Indy readers may be interested in.

People in Missoula have known about the Admin problems at the U for years now. Will we finally do something about it?

Re: “Youth Dynamics expands teen addiction treatment to Missoula

We've got to get this country off of opium. The drug companies are getting us hooked. When the doctors realize this, they abandon us. Then we head to the street for the cheap stuff.

Most of it's coming from Afghanistan. We need to get our military out of that country. Then we need to clean up the corruption in Congress and turn that body's attention to Big Pharma and the evils they perpetrate against us.

Randy is a much appreciated model builder and manufacturer. Quality workmanship, modestly priced and devoted to making his customer happy. Thanks to the Missoula News for not painting model builders as nut cases interested in crashing toy trains. That stereotype image is very old. This is the world's greatest hobby. And building structures is my primary interest and has been for over 70 years.

Re: “Cyclists carve a win out of wilderness

I feel that groups advocating for cycling in the backcountry and wilderness need to think long and hard about where bike technology is heading . . . fast - electric assist bikes. Four years ago, I was road cycling and was passed on a steep uphill (15% grade) by a group of mountain bikers with motors - they went fast and required very little effort on the part of the cyclists. Three days ago, I was in a sporting goods store in Kalispell and saw a fat tire bike with an electric motor on it (it was on $2400 - what is the difference between that type of 'bicycle' and an electric motorbike (besides power)? Bicycle Magazine's latest edition covers all the choices in electric assist mountain bikes available for 2017. Who will stand at all the trail heads to determine which bicycle is acceptable and which is not? Dirt bikers will, with good reason, argue that they should be allowed to go if bicycles are allowed. Will traditional mountain bikers patrol others to insure no motor compliance? I know I wouldn't - I go to the outdoors to enjoy it, not to get into a confrontation with others. Be careful what you wish for [mountain bikers]- you may kill the goose in the coming years because you want golden eggs right now wherever you want.

Re: “The Republican operative behind Big Sky Headlines has some funny ideas about journalism

Republican: Thank you for pointing out the error. Eaton was executive director, and I've corrected the story (with a note) to reflect that. I'll speak with my editor about running a correction in our next printed publication as well. I appreciate your help.

We should also be happy about how much investigation the Independant did on this story. Eaton was never the chair of the party. Democrat operatives at the independant appear to make things up.
