Re: “Yep, we're still here

Will the Indy be allowed to hire a reporter following Kate's (unrelated) resignation?

Re: “'Sand Castle' unpacks Operation Iraqi Futility

From an Iraq War combat veteran: No. There wasn't much there that felt very authentic, and certainly nothing "cathartic" or "comforting". This was a paint-by-number rendition devoid of depth. Worse, the film appears to have somehow confirmed your own flawed preconceived notions about what it was like or what it meant. This film was bland and instantly forgettable. While you're waiting for THE film about the Iraq War, for God's sake READ the multitude of authentic accounts. There are a lot of great books out there, and they can certainly help inform any future reviews you might tackle.

Why would anything change when you have one Liberal biased rag buying out another Liberal biased rag

I wish they would interview Daniel Geary. He is a hoot.

Re: “A note from our publisher: Challenges to quality journalism are bigger than us

You were never truly independent anyways. You have advertisers. I imagine if they got ticked-off at your content, you'd change your tune real quick.

Well, get ready to do so as Lee takes you over. They just want you for that advertising. In a couple years you'll be rolled into the Missoulian and that'll be that - yet another weekly paper from Montana's history.

What was your take on this deal, Matt? Hopefully enough that in 5 or 10 years you don't regret it.

Re: “Sanders returns to offer Quist an assist

What good is this going to do?

$10 says he's coming back to Missoula, a city that's going to go for Quist anyways. That's if we even get out and vote - turnout in 2014 was 49% and in 2013 it was 41%.

I don't think it'll be that much different in 2017. We have 71,000 people in this city but nearly 40,000 of them don't vote.

Perhaps politicians should ask them way and then change their tune so those 40,000 do feel like voting.

Or Dems can just continue to lose, which is what I expect we'll see.

Re: “Yep, we're still here

Let's come back to this post in 6 months or a year and see how many of those names you mentioned are still working at the Indy.

I bet many will have been offered reduced salaries for the same amount of work and left because of it, while others simply would have been let go (fired or layed-off, whichever word you prefer).

It's the Lee way.

Re: “Indy sign (inevitably) vandalized

That pisses me off ! Sold down the river. If that isn't confirmation that worship of money is the religion of this damn country now, nothing is. Nothing is sacred anymore, money rules EVERYTHING in this country now.

Re: “So, about that sale...

It will take awhile but when you look at the other purchases; the Adit in Helena, Mini-Nickel in Bozeman, the Thrifty Nickel in Billings, etc. They all become part of the daily newspaper eventually. First the right-sizing, then the "great cross-selling opportunities", then "why not save money by moving in to the Missoulian" then, "Why do we have duplicate management?", then "Wow, the numbers are really looking bad, we should deliver the Indy in the Missoulian to save money", then it fades away. The really sad thing is that Matt and Lynne were given a plan to fix things in short order but thought it might cause too much stress. Matt is about to understand stress.
