Re: “Historic Harold's Club closing after half-century of business

I understand that the building would need massive renovations to bring it up to code. I'd check to see how the limited access because of the train tracks you have to cross to get in or out affect it. The water supply is very limited. The neighborhood has to use a water tower that they pay for. There was a fire near the bar last year. The nearest fire hydrant was across highway 200. I'd be VERY cautious about buying this place.

Re: “Self-inflicted wound

There's simply no correlation between carbon dioxide levels and global temperatures. If CO2 causes warming, why did the earth cool 1945 - 1977, as CO2 output increased drastically?

Due to the logarithmic effect of carbon dioxide's heat absorption, its ability to trap heat declines rapidly with an increase of the gas in the atmosphere. Examining the earth's climate history, there are many examples in which rises in CO2 went hand-in-hand with declining temperatures. Many other factors have a greater effect on the climate.

So the outcome of this fact is that by the time the earth reaches the 22nd century, and CO2 is at 620 parts per million, the temperature rise caused by this will be only 0.2 deg. C.

The earth is now in its 21st year without any statistically significant warming, according to the best data source - satellite monitoring data.

The NOAA, which monitors global temperatures, plays notoriously loose with the facts, and has changed the data to provide the appearance of warming, when there isn't any.

Re: “Judge overturns commission's approval of Legacy Ranch subdivision

"Ravalli County Commission Chairman Jeff Burrows says the commission was 'surprised' by the ruling.... β€œIt’s probably dead unless us and the developers or whoever comes through and appeals it up,” he says of Legacy Ranch.”
If they're all as stupid as Ravalli County Commission Chairman Jeff Burrows is inarticulate, god help Ravalli county, and no wonder the judge overturned their asinine decision.

Re: “So many wrongs

Fred Pearce has not only found the path of least resistance to solving the problem of the demise of our life-support system (aka environment) by rationalizing acceptance of its death by a thousand cuts, but he has opened the door to his future income. He will be generously rewarded by the agents of death for his tortuous self-serving 'thinking'. Both corporate interests and their Gang-green (aka 'new' green) accomplises love to create the illusion of a new normal that leads to acceptance rather than resistance. But the new normal is the same as the ancient normal, ie natural laws are eternal, can not be repealed by venal politicians, and will prevail sooner or later.

Re: “New life for Lincoln School?

So the city is telling a private property owner how to run their property. Mandating these restrictions on things like parking only increase the cost of doing business for people living in Missoula.

Re: “Sprawling fed control

Great article. However, Montana has done itself a disservice in this regard because of the CSKT water compact, which in fact does give sprawling control to the federal government over water in western Montana. How will Tim Fox respond when the US shoots down Montana's role in this lawsuit on WOTUS because he signed off on the CSKT Compact? Tim Fox is hiding is work on the compact by pretending to protect Montana from WOTUS.

Re: “Glacier Park hosting new InstaMeet and photo walk series

I have a question, does @theanydempster need a special use permit for her photography? Seems to me like it's as commercial as anything anyone does in the park? She's being paid and she's photographing models, is there a permit required and if so, is it given courtesy, or does she have to pay for it like everyone else? One could very easily make the argument that any photos posted on line to promote travel are exempt, but that's not how the park service looks at it. So, can you do a follow up about how this is permitted under the park service regulations?

Re: “City of Missoula wins Mountain Water case

"...a municipally owned utility would be better equipped to serve the public's interest, rather than a corporate owner with shareholders."

That should be self evident to all but the most hard core, right wing, repuglikan "free market" and privatization worshipers.

After Mountain Water is wrested from the greedy, sweaty fists of the Carlyle Group, lets go after Northwest Energy and reincarnate Montana Power as a public utility !

Re: “Happiest Hour: Draught Works' Berliner Weisse

I can't wait! In the mid- or late '90s, another brewer in Missoula (I think it was Beargrass Brewing, a predecessor to Kettlehouse) put out a Berliner Weisse. They offered a flavoring called Woodruff that was dark green in color and tasted like vanilla. I remember enjoying a few pints of it at the Rhino and I've often wondered if we'd see it again.

Bravo! All of you county attorneys read this and change the course of your office. Ewan coached these witnesses and should be reprimanded for her actions. We need to seek the truth and not win at any cost. Well said Ms. Kauffman.

Re: “Wilma donates projectors to Roxy

it is a wonderful idea and I hope they will fit in the Roxy. I also hope that the roxy will continue to show the old fashioned movies from the 40 and 50 reel to reel.!! have an old fashioned movie night like it use to be.!! you could even hold a costumed one where people would dress up in that period and hand out a price for the "best dressed".!! give it some thought.!!

Re: “Ready or not

Taxi service in Missoula is almost non-existent. We need to push past "traditional" business and get creative. I have had nothing but terrible experience trying to reserve a cab in MT. So, even if these app based companies fail in MT, we cannot be afraid of trying to become more efficient.

Re: “Activists concerned over trapping presentation offered to Bitterroot students

People supporting trapping give the same old blah, blah, overpopulation, blah, blah, heritage nonsense. When will they ever have the courage to stand up and say "yes, I like killing animals and don't give a crap about suffering and cruelty".
