Re: “Translating tragedy

Saltine: I'd say "A Clockwork Orange" was as much a warning as it was a work of fiction (much as Orwell's "1984" was.)
Anyway, once again this discussion is moot; THERE'S NO FREAKING WAY Ellie Hill's ban on self-defense in your own home is going to fly in the state of Montana... although sadly something similar might be established via local ordinance here in Zoo-Town (never did a city have a more apt nickname.)
Oh and... I apologize for the name-calling ("sheeple".) That's typical LIBERAL behavior... along with sticking your fingers in your ears and singing "LALALALALA" whenever you're confronted with logic and common sense.

Re: “Translating tragedy

Chumley: "A Clockwork Orange" is a work of fiction, as is your argument. Also, using the word "sheeple" automatically disqualifies you from being taken seriously.

A man shot an unarmed teenager in his garage. Dede made a mistake and so did Kaarma. Dede paid with his life; it's time for Kaarma to face the consequences, based on the evidence and not "what if" scenarios.

Re: “Translating tragedy

Just a question here.
I see a lot of sheeple here bleating for repeal of the "Castle Doctrine" law. Do you think that if you encounter a burglar in your home and he, say, pulls a knife... that you should take whatever "retreat" option you have (including smashing out a window and crawling through broken glass to escape) before shooting the bastard? Or that you should lock yourself in the bathroom (while hoping to hell the intruder doesn't find your wife/daughter?) Do you want emboldened, state-protected criminals invading occupied homes (and beating/robbing the occupants) on a frequent basis, like they do in England? Sounds like a bunch of you have watched "A Clockwork Orange" and wished you could live in it for real.
Fortunately, you WON'T get the Castle Doctrine repealed; Missoula (and environs) is a liberal zit on an otherwise beautiful conservative face (the great state of Montana.)
Oh and... call me an idiot if you like! Disapproval from the contemptible (i.e., statist liberals) is almost as good as kudos from the admirable.

Re: “Translating tragedy

you have to have a 100 % unanimous vote near as I know having been on jury duty a few times. I don't see any way that will happen, maybe a hung jury, but I doubt that too as the facts so far point to a robbery gone bad, how visible was this burglar to the shooter, did he have a hand in his pocket, etc. let's see how it all comes out, then the 2 far sides can bitch about how the outcome "should" of been instead of offering a prayer for this young man

Re: “Translating tragedy

The fact that he killed the young man speaks loudly of his intentions. He committed the more serious crime.

Re: “Health care

One question that wasn't answered at the public forum is why the University of Montana Foundation will be given $500,000 on the day of closing, if the sale is approved. Not one of the panel members would touch that question...makes you wonder why. Are they hiding something they were hoping the public wouldn't find out about. And how can the same attorney for CMC, who is also legal counsel for the UM Foundation, be involved in this transaction. Just seems like a conflict of interest.

Re: “Translating tragedy

I'm blown away from how stupid some of these comments are. I thought normal people read this publication, not hooting troglodytes, tossing comments around like their equally coherent lumps of poo.

"BAITING", a person into your garage so you can murder them is nothing but using the veil of a misguided law to commit the worst crime imaginable. This isn't a case of defending the castle, not when you leave the draw bridge down, hoping for someone to wander in.

Some of the comments here... Oh, poor baby being burglarized makes you feel bad? How about having your son murdered?

Know what? I went garage shopping for beer when I was a teenager. I'm a worthwhile human being, and I've done a lot of good with my life, even if I did stupid shit as a teenager. Also, one time I woke up to a stranger crashing around in my kitchen. Just a piss-drunk guy. Did I murder him? No. Could I have? Yes. Castle doctrine is a joke of a law written by insecure douche bags with tiny wieners they use guns to compensate for their insecurities. just like some of the commenters here.

When standing in his garage, with a loaded twelve-guage pointed at a skinny teenager, nothing in his hands, Markus Kaarma was not in danger, and he knew it. Instead of calling the police, as he should have done, he chose to fire his weapon, not once, but four times into this poor child, assuring not only that his beer fridge was safe, but that kid was a corpse. He's a menace, and a psychopath who baited someone into his home so he could experience the thrill of murdering someone.

Petty larceny is not a crime that justifies murder.

Markus Kaarma is a murderer of children, his girlfriend was an accessory to his crimes, and both of them deserve nothing less than to spend the rest of their lives in prison. I for one, do not feel safe with people like Markus Kaarma living in my community.

Anyone think it's funny that her last name is Assmann? Remember, a man was killed.

Re: “Translating tragedy

Have any of you ever been burglarized? No I doubt it, I for one can see how this trial will end in a not Guilty verdict. It is such a violation of your self you can't imagine. I would never want to have to kill someone, kid, or what ever, but I will defend my property and would of made all 4 shots count! Sorry it was a kid, and not sorry it was a German as I have seen first hand how these folks in AK do what ever they want regardless of the laws, they don't think our American laws pertain to them, they push you out of a good fishing hole pretending to not understand our language, they break every law in AK and are the most obtrusive folks I have ever met! Sorry, this "kid" was taught to have total disrespect for American laws and paid a horrible price , but a just one. We have Laws here to protect ourselves from folks like him, drug addicts stealing for drugs, etc. our American laws are just and not "wild west" as these law breakers will find out, sometimes the hard way.

Re: “Translating tragedy

This country sucks ass. If your a Dem or Rep you have just been tricked.. divide and conquer is the only thing I can say about a 2 party system. We argue over gay rights and the legality of plants while our banks indebt us and the police kill us for fighting back.. we need a surgical revolution.. the only think that ever has and ever will wirk to stop massive corruption is death.. not paid leave..

Re: “Translating tragedy

I agree with you Stephen, Just what is wrong in America is the mental disorder of the left wing idiots. I am surprised the trial was not held in another venue rather that that liberal septic tank, Missoula. I don't believe anyone should ever go to a country without first understanding the laws, language or culture. Just because a door is open is not an invitation to enter another's home or buildings. Just what part of this story is the truth and which is B.S. That will be for the jury to decide. After the foul lawyers in dirty black robes get finished perverting the law you are likely to get just about any result in the verdict.

Sometimes there is justice unfortunately sometimes when public opinion or some government worker is on trial the system becomes "just us"! Murdering cops run free, politicians never go to jail, but here a man who has acted according to his rights being destroyed by the public opinion of the retards on the left.

This never should have came to trial. There were no charges filed until a few gun grabbing idiots from Missoula created a big deal about nothing. I sincerely hope the jury see's through this bunch of hype and show the world that there is still some common sense in our judicial system. I would be voting on the side of the homeowner and not the intruder.

Re: “Railroad switch

"a oil train accident that is virtually never going to happen" Oh ? How many derailments in North Dakota alone of trainloads of Baakan oil - not to mention similar derailments in other states - have I read about recently ?

How quickly we forget the recent disaster in Quebec or Ontario that incinerated 49 people.

Re: “The right plan

They aren't conservatives, they're reactionary extremists : BEWARE !

I wasn't aware that Montana had been annexed by Idaho and is now Idaho East. At least that's what it looks like. It appears that the "leaders" in you're legislature are certainly following Idaho's lead, stacking all the key positions within right wing ideologues; and look where it'll take you : Idaho is at or very near the bottom of the stack in virtually every category except pandering to the interests of Big Agriculture and other corporate interests. We're at or near the bottom in per-capita income, funding education, covering indigents' medical expenses, and on and on. About the only category Idaho leads the country in is the percentage of minimum wage workers (Of course, the corporations love that !).

Be careful. Idaho has had one party rule for decades, ever since Cecil Andrus left office. don't let it happen in Montana !

Re: “The right plan

I think moderate Republicans and centrist Democrats can find a lot of common values and even more projects to work on together. I don't think it's a worthwhile project to end the future of any particular faction, though. I tend to hope for more parties, not fewer.
