Re: “Commander Zinke and the great land transfer flip-flop

"This is why business interests are so interested in transferring federal lands to the states: State government is easier to buy off."

More on this please.

What did you expect ? Comandante Zinke is just another egotistical, two- faced, opportunistic liar who's gone to Washington to feather his own nest.

Re: “"Stop flipping off the Mayor:" City official censures volunteer after she resigns from Historic Preservation Commission

The City of Missoula should get rid of 1/2 its staff. The city would then operate more efficiently and taxes could be reduced. This mercantile business has gone on way too long. If the preservationist want to preserve the building come up with some non-tax money and buy the current owners out.

Re: “Cyclists carve a win out of wilderness

I feel that groups advocating for cycling in the backcountry and wilderness need to think long and hard about where bike technology is heading . . . fast - electric assist bikes. Four years ago, I was road cycling and was passed on a steep uphill (15% grade) by a group of mountain bikers with motors - they went fast and required very little effort on the part of the cyclists. Three days ago, I was in a sporting goods store in Kalispell and saw a fat tire bike with an electric motor on it (it was on $2400 - what is the difference between that type of 'bicycle' and an electric motorbike (besides power)? Bicycle Magazine's latest edition covers all the choices in electric assist mountain bikes available for 2017. Who will stand at all the trail heads to determine which bicycle is acceptable and which is not? Dirt bikers will, with good reason, argue that they should be allowed to go if bicycles are allowed. Will traditional mountain bikers patrol others to insure no motor compliance? I know I wouldn't - I go to the outdoors to enjoy it, not to get into a confrontation with others. Be careful what you wish for [mountain bikers]- you may kill the goose in the coming years because you want golden eggs right now wherever you want.

Re: “Wondering how to fight Trumpism? Don't buy in.

It's going to take more than consuming less to address the real harm coming to us from the current political Death Star. Finding and supporting new leaders with better ideas begins yesterday.

Re: “The Republican operative behind Big Sky Headlines has some funny ideas about journalism

Republican: Thank you for pointing out the error. Eaton was executive director, and I've corrected the story (with a note) to reflect that. I'll speak with my editor about running a correction in our next printed publication as well. I appreciate your help.

We should also be happy about how much investigation the Independant did on this story. Eaton was never the chair of the party. Democrat operatives at the independant appear to make things up.

Re: “Neo-Nazis say they're coming to Whitefish. Time to send in the clowns.

Looks as if they're planning to come to town on 1/15. MLK's birthday. How contemptible.

As far as fighting absurdity with absurdity... I've got an idea. The town is called Whitefish, so how about fighting their so-called "white supremacy" with "fish supremacy". Finheads against skinheads! Fish-shaped hats, maybe costumes (hopefully large enough to fit bullet-proof vests on underneath), throwing rotten fish on the ground in front of them for them to walk through, putting huge tangles of fishing line in their path, and many more ideas which will bait them into doing something that'll get them behind bars -- which is where these scum belong.

Or maybe not. It's just an idea that popped into my head. But I thought it was worth mentioning.

Hopefully they will wuss out and not show. That would be a victory for civilization. But just in case they do show, give 'em hell!!

Re: “No comment

The foolish notion that we have the right to know is what gets us in trouble. The right to know what we are paying for has long been dead. We keep complaining about it, but do nothing to demand change. We claim to not be sheep, but are the first ones in line when the shears come out.

Re: “Wondering how to fight Trumpism? Don't buy in.

less meat, less heat, more life
You control what goes on your plate multiple times every day. No regulations or elected officials are needed for you to stop putting meat there. Meat production is wasteful, polluting and its consumption is actually not all that good for human health. What do you eat instead? everything else!
