Re: “Brotherhood takes a road trip

Thanks Alexsa. The press kit for I'm a Patriot shows your name as "Alexa" in the cast list, so that's what we went with. I've updated it to the correct spelling online. Apologies for the error.

Re: “Brotherhood takes a road trip

Re: “Gone rogue: Demagogues, dystopia, and democracy's descent to a deep, dark place

Reminds me of a title of a comedy album from more than 40 years ago. Everything you know is wrong.

Re: “Proof

The debate never happened. The defendant, Lipstadt, refused to take the stand. It was David Irving (representing himself) against Lipstadt/Penguin's vast team of lawyers, debating not historical fact but points of law.

Separately, Lipstadt has firmly stated her refusal NEVER to debate anyone who disagrees with her about the Holocaust. What does that tell you? Irving is ready anytime.

My dad was a medic for these heroes. He spoke of them in reverent respect, telling us often of their suffering and his respect for them.

Re: “Things unseen

Great descriptive article; cool photo-wish they were connected with their instruments; and very talented and entertaining music makers that always compel head bobbing and hip shaking.

James Lee Burke is a dear friend to me even though we have never met. His writing resonates wih my Southern White Man ways and education and regard for the fairer sex. Enjoyed your noble authorship since I turned 16 years old and now I am 62 and counting on your contant friengship. Just now catching on to yout artful mind. Thank You Sir. Dr. Tom (Ret.)

Re: “Test of time

Only one quibble with this excellent article. Wayfaring Stranger and House of the Rising Sun are two of the best books I have read in a long, long time, and by the man who I consider our best living writer. But Wayfaring Stranger is actually set in 1946, not 1956.

FYI - Absolute Loser isn't a Sub Pop release - it's from Easy Sound Recording Company.

Re: “Out there

Hi there, it's Smoke Signal publisher Gabe Fowler. Thanks for the nice article. Allow me to comment a bit, since nobody contacted me for this piece. First of all, I absolutely love Jay Rummel's work and am honored to be able to print it and possibly expose it to a larger audience. It is somewhat inaccurate to say I discovered Rummel's great work through "online shopping". An artist friend from Missoula introduced me to his work, which I quickly learned was almost completely unknown outside of Montana. I approached Barbara Koostra at the Montana Museum of Art & Culture in an effort to learn more, and she directed me to Dana Gallery in Missoula. The gallery was either unable or unwilling to help me obtain Rummel work for print, but they told me he had no heirs. By this point I was fully obsessed with printing Rummel's work alongside contemporary cartoonists in Smoke Signal, so I searched high and low until I found Mr. McIlmay, who was attempting to sell Rummel work on craigslist. I'm very thankful for his help in making this project happen. I will also say that I've never spent even remotely this amount of money producing an issue of Smoke Signal and I'm completely broke now! But it was worth it as an editor to help people encounter this great work. Thanks for your time.
