Re: “About Last Night: Richard Thompson at the Wilma

What a fantastic show. Probably the 6th or 7th show he has played in Missoula, but the first time he has played electric guitar. What a treat. Sound was great seats, were great, drinks were great. Wilma is a perfect venue for a great rock show. Bruce/Rudy's

Re: “The Wilma Theatre's former film projectionist mourns the end of an era

iv always been a projectionist and always will . i cant image life not been one. even if it is with digital . i has been employed in the cinema and AV industry for all of his working life. iv held the position of Chief Projectionist for both the Odeon and UGC circuit, as well as projecting rushes at Pinewood and Shepperton Studios. to date i am working for myself @ . i will be ready when the cinema manager need to run 35mm or can not program the digital screens . not even sure it is legal not to have a projectionist to turn off the screens and the fans . A cinema projectionist has always been on hand to answer and help with problems within a cinema . even just to change a fuse for get the light working in a exit . i love my life as a projectionist thanks Neville Founder of proscreens and projectionist

Re: “About Last Night: My Morning Jacket at the Wilma for the theater's grand reopening

I thought the concert was great and the new venue is beautiful. However I felt that the sound quality was not up to par. The sound was distorted in my opinion. Don't know if it was the new sound system not being dialed in or the room acoustics.......or my old ears for that matter ;). did anyone else experience this?

Re: “Local organizers revive Montana Festival of the Book

Thank God ! It's my one cultural fix of the year.
(I live in Idaho and the word "culture" apparently has been excised from all dictionaries in this benighted state.)

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

To the people who have a question about the black guy on the panel: He was not experiencing white privilege. He was experiencing black privilege in that he's the one who got to argue the mascot defense openly. Remember the line, "But then, one of the pro-mascot fellas started to defend their position, and everything derailed."
That was the black dude. He blindsided the show's intent by being the only one privileged enough to able to openly argue about the use of the mascot without being horrified by the fact that his ancestry destroyed indigenous culture. Because, it didn't. Or hell, I wouldn't put it past Jones to throw a curve ball at the activists. He's a really intelligent guy.

It's white privilege to be able to derail an open discussion with hysteria such as the case with O'Dell. It's white privilege to be able to claim that you were intimidated by a group of minorities because you had to answer for yourself (mere moments after saying you'd be glad to answer for yourself). It's white privilege to be able to threaten, intimidate or otherwise mock anyone who makes whites feel the slightest bit uncomfortable about being in control of everything. And, hey, no one is saying you didn't earn that privilege.

Race/Ethnic Makeup: The U.S. population includes 12 percent African Americans, 9 percent Hispanics, and 3 percent Asian/Pacific Islanders and other groups. Congress, however, is 87 percent white; 85 percent in the House and 96 percent in the Senate.

You've even got half the President. The good half, I might add. If I were to quote Bill O'Reilly I'd say, "...don't call it white privilege, call it a factor"

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

finally found part of the segment. I wish they had shown it in unedited. But what was interesting was the journey, the research on other sights/ Such as Mr. Redom of saying the Native people aren't the ones keeping this issue alive but the media. My question is why did the football team change its name from the braves to Redskins in the 1dt place? I also want to find the song that was mentioned by the redskins fan that they chant, I doubt this will go away and I doubt anything will be done unless we get NCAAP involved. Do they help Indians? Would that be considered racist to wonder if they would/wouldn't?

My final thought is If everyone else is wondering why should anyone care and that its no big deal and everyone has good nostalgic memories of watching the games with friends and family alike. Well, so do Arian Nations, KKK, Nazis and every other group that discriminate, bullies, terrorizes anyone. Yep,They have good memories if times before when "those people" weren't allowed rights. Yep good times and they too wondered what is the big deal. Native Americans are the forgotten people. That is a big deal, I think

This is a great article- as a non-Native, it deeply saddens me that you and any other Native would continue to encounter prejudice- thank you for your perseverance and allowing for further discussion on this important issue

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

yeah it is comedy and that should give those people the first clue that they are comical. But the use of the name implies they are wearing the skins of our ancestors and thus the disrespect. Wearing those skins supposedly makes them impervious to the fact that they are elitetest and racist. Is being racist a cool thing, if it is directeded toward the Native Americans that occupied these lands? Who will stand up for those that have been oppressed the longest on this land? We have lost our lands. Many of us have lost our cultures and languages. Just how much more can be taken away? When people get into the these stadiums to root for their favorite team they are paying homage to their corporate gods the gods of rich, greedy, and unaware. A confused people who want to hang on to some sort of culture that will never belong to them. The Washington Moniker is not a culture of Native People. It is disgraceful and disrespectful to where the Reds**n colors without me not seeing the butchered remains of my Ancestors.

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

I believe that the Independent should run a local expose on this discussion and should expand out to reach different demographics.
What are the feelings from our local MT, Reservations?
What does the Football Fan Bar crowd think about this matter?
how about our locals and our Native American youth?
I think its good to ask:
"what is entitlement?" "What is White Entitlement?" "Is there cultural imbalance?"
"who invented RACE & RACISM and why? What purpose did RACISM serve?"
"Is racism free speech or is it verbal assault?"
"In what ways are "WHITES" Oppressed vs NATIVE AMERICANS?" "

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

I find it so bizarre that so many people claim to have Native American blood or ancestry and yet they're racist. The National Geographic DNA project pretty much proved that most people who claim to have Native American ancestry do not. And while DNA can't 100% disprove Native ancenstry, you'd think they're be a lot more positive hits. On the other hand, if you define America as South and North American, you will find many people with Native roots.

Re: “"I'll fucking cut you." Behind the scenes of the 1491s' segment on "The Daily Show"

"When White Women Cry: How White Women's Tears Oppress Women of Color" as one person quoted above, is a good example of why liberals have their heads up their own butts. white people can't even cry without somehow oppressing someone, somewhere.

everyone in the comments section who learned about "white privilege" in college and is now super excited to use this label on something in real life: you are racist.

you have drunk football fans of varying demographics, and as usual, it's the liberal war on white people worldview that prevails. do you realize that the majority of both white and black "appearing" Americans have some native ancestry? to varying degrees? especially in this part of the United States? do some research if you don't believe this.
