jrjr2000, FEDERAL LAW prohibits the disclosure of student information from federally-funded (almost all) schools. Go ahead, look it up, it's the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). So pretty much everyone's records are "sealed." How ironic for someone tossing around the word "stupid" at other people. Please apologize for spreading falsehoods.
Can you imagine if a writer like Brooks had called our first mulatto President (Obama) an asshole just before Inauguration Day?? The liberals would have came unglued and demanded he (the writer) be assassinated. One good thing about this election, it has shown so many liberals for what they really are, and right out in the open for all to see.
The Russians didn't give us fake news, and they didn't create the dumbed-down puppet electorate that buys into that anti intellectual, anti anything with a 'D' next to it propaganda, but they did use a type of Russian propaganda (fake news) to misinform those easily fooled minds.
Hillary was not the best candidate, but was a highly qualified candidate. This should not be forgotten: the republicans have been campaigning against Hillary since she was in collage. The republicans spent $136 million of public money in the 90s on political war games trying to make the Clintons look bad. All that money and effort to influence hate of the Clintons on a dumbed-down puppet electorate gave us a dumb asshole for a president.
The puppet masters of right wing propaganda, those who created this puppet electorate, Republicans who gained control of their states through gerrymandering and voter suppression created an Electoral Collage favorable towards voting republican (the democratic usefulness of the EC is another issue), all of this is what created a Trump presidency.
Matt K. Lewis
"Too Dumb to Fail"
In 1963 Richard Hofstadter published his landmark book Anti-Intellectualism in American Life. Today, Matt Lewis argues, America's inclination toward simplicity and stupidity is stronger than ever, and its greatest victim is the Republican Party.
Ahh the childhood memories...great review, Kate!
Dan, I wish you wrote for the Des Moines Register. Your article is spot on. I don't think Trump knew anything about John Lewis being a Freedom Rider or all his other participation and work in the Civil Rights Movement when he responded in his tweet. In fact, I bet he hadn't even heard of John Lewis before Lewis' comments went viral.
The hacking language distracts us from the bigger case for charging Trump with illegitimacy (in my opinion) once he actually is president, which is the question of conflicts of interest and the fact that he won't release his tax returns nor divest himself from his business enterprises. This may very well dovetail with the fact of Russian hacking and subsequent leaks. We may find that Trump is uniquely qualified to be blackmailed. But I don't think we need to wait for that to come to light to call him an illegitimate president.
Public lands and wildlife - even endangered species - are almost always extremely low priorities to the feds. Except when money is involved, or when special interest groups, whose influence usually far exceeds their size or importance scream.
Of course, I'm referring to the hook and bullet gang and the always whining livestock industry.
Spineless government !
And another stupid asshole is Dan Brooks. Can't be any worse than 8 years under Obozo.
And a question for Dan... Why did Obama have ALL of his college and HS school records sealed and hidden by lawyers, so they could never be revealed?? Answer. Even though I assume he was born in Hawaii, he got into those colleges by claiming he was a foreign student (easier to get in at that time and a free ride as a foreigner). And if that had been revealed, the lie would have destroyed his run for president. HMMMMMM
What a bunch of whiny ass, sore losers. Tens of millions hated it when Obama was elected, but they respected the process and didn't act like a bunch of spoiled 8th graders who didn't get their way. Get over it. Give it two years and then whine if you think you are worse off.
Whether or not Russia "hacked" the election, in the sense that Brooks defined the term ("The phrase "hacked the election" shows how simplistic this narrative has become. Neither Russia nor its agents did anything to alter vote counts or subvert the will of the American people. There is no evidence suggesting they hacked any computer systems related to the election itself."), there's little argument that they did interfere in it, just as the U.S. does in practically every other country on earth's elections.
What goes around, comes around. It's different when the shoe's on the other foot, isn't it, when it's your ox that's getting gored ?
And BTW, don't take this as an attempt to defend either Russia or Drumpf. I despise Drumpf, he's a vile, evil monster, IMO.
I continue to believe that being against the transfer or sale of federal public lands might be the lowest of low bar to hope that Zinke would step over. Hard to tell what his position on the matter really is, especially in the context that Trump is establishing the most anti-public lands, anti-environmental administration in history. The Trump Administration is essentially going to be a government for and by Big Oil, and Zinke will fit right in, especially considering he raked in $350,000 in oil, gas and fracking campaign contributions in just a couple of years.
Has anyone ever heard Ryan Zinke speak in favor of the Endangered Species Act? Has he ever once voted to better fund the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which is charged with overseeing ESA issue? Has he voted many times to gut the ESA? Yes.
It's not like Zinke's 3% VOTING record with the League of Conservation voters came out of thin air. And it's not like LCV is some far left group, they are pretty mainstream. Also, he earned an "F" 9% rating from the National Parks Conservation Association, again, a very middle-of-the road group. These voting records were earned based on actual votes, not on some rhetoric or statement.
Oh, yes, but Zinke really likes Teddy Roosevelt. He brought up Teddy at least as many times during his hearing as he brought up being a former Navy Seal. I saw a blog post yesterday in which someone said that if you look honestly at Zinke's real voting record on the 'conservation spectrum' you will find that he is much more closely aligned with someone like Rob Bishop then he's aligned with Teddy Roosevelt.
Groups such as Backcountry Hunters and Anglers, Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (both of whom get Trump money and have, perhaps as a result, seen huge increases in their budgets the past few years) would do well to stop pushing this "Zinke is Teddy reincarnated" BS and be more truthful and straightforward with the American people.
America's public lands, wildlife and wilderness legacy is at threat folks, and if anyone thinks Zinke, and his future boss President Trump, are going to protect (rather than exploit) that legacy is just being delusional.
Here's another good read about the hearing that Indy readers may be interested in.

Oh my God it had a radio collar? Such damning evidence, I'm sure 99 out of 100 Americans can pick out a radio collar at 200 yards, so yes lock them all up!!
especially lock up that dude who shoots a wolf that is in the location of his recently killed livestock, that rancher must be the most evil person I've ever met. A true drain on society, raising grass that converts carbon dioxide to oxygen, and providing you beef.
The #$%@ out of here with your California bull $#!t.
People in Missoula have known about the Admin problems at the U for years now. Will we finally do something about it?
We've got to get this country off of opium. The drug companies are getting us hooked. When the doctors realize this, they abandon us. Then we head to the street for the cheap stuff.
Most of it's coming from Afghanistan. We need to get our military out of that country. Then we need to clean up the corruption in Congress and turn that body's attention to Big Pharma and the evils they perpetrate against us.
are you aware that Eagles are often killed by these wind mill electrical generation sites? along with many other bird species? the DOE and USFW allowed a certain number to be killed, since it was inevitable that such happenings occur. However the government revised that allowable number to be Doubled- yes doubled, before punitive action results. Why are you not concerned with the Eagle deaths but yet are worried about wolves?
a Black bear and a grizzly bear are two different animals.. Do some research before you write a dumb article. In the north east we have had just one black bear attack and it was back in 1960 s.. If you even get a glimpse of a black bear consider yourself lucky.
Randy is a much appreciated model builder and manufacturer. Quality workmanship, modestly priced and devoted to making his customer happy. Thanks to the Missoula News for not painting model builders as nut cases interested in crashing toy trains. That stereotype image is very old. This is the world's greatest hobby. And building structures is my primary interest and has been for over 70 years.
