Re: “Dark reality

Funny or maybe sad that people like Grijalva and Thompson just parrot the party line mandated from Obama (who do all the Fed agencies & non elected agents answer to? Like Jeh Johnson? Loretta Lynch?). Grijalva and Thompson mention little to nothing regarding the Islamist Jihadist terrorists threat until the last paragraph. So apparent that the real threat to the left, top down, bottom up, are the patriotic Americans who challenge and stand up to the Feds and local govt. Yep these so branded anti-govt " domestic terrorists:" groups, as opposed to lone nuts, are(new buzz words) "homegrown militia". LOL Homegrown aka American? As opposed to what? The foreign grown Islamic and second generation born in America Islamic terrorists?

Again why didn't the FBI, having the info they had thanks to the Fusion Centers, set Mateen up as they did with the occupiers of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge? Do they think animals are worth being more protected than human beings? Or protecting the govt? Look up Kriss Wolf and Judi Bari just to name 2 .

Re: “Dark reality

Somehow it's OK if the faceless, nameless government has all the guns, all the power, and can make all the decisions on how our land should be used, including selling off huge swathes of it to other countries, brokered for big bank by the slimy deal makers, Dems and GOP, in the Congress and the White House.

Yet, it's a horrible threat to all our safety if normal people exercise their voices and their natural rights to use the land as our Founders intended. Oops, I said the dirty word: Founders, which to the authoritarian Left (not liberals at all,) is synonymous with "terrorists" and "racists."

Re: “Mistaken identity

Let's be clear. Warren did not use her imagined Cherokee ancestry to get any job or tenure. She was recruited for a tenured position at Harvard twice, having turned it down the first time. She also answered "no" on earlier application questions about requesting special status or assistance. She is certainly open to fair criticism but she did not exploit or game the systems designed to open opportunities for Native Americans or any "minorities."

Re: “Dark reality

Last week we had a group of protesters occupy a federal building in Washington, disrupt business, and all the while they were protected by gun-toting men. They get paid $175,000 a year too.

Yep, they're congressman and women and their little protest stunt of a few hours might have driven up donations to their party, but I doubt it did much more.

Oh, it did show that if you're politically well-connected then you can engage in domestic disturbances and protests and get off just fine.

It's just when you're a regular schmuck like those idiots in Oregon that you'll run into problems.

Great country, huh? Hey, we made it this way.

Re: “No argument here

While do I have to give you some credit for actually watching this event, you lose all credibility when you say that Montana has a flat job market. Unemployment in Montana has been at a very low rate during the Bullock term. While some high profile closures have recently been announced, what would you or anyone else for that matter have the Governor do to force a private company to keep its facilities open when they perceive them to be uneconomical?

Similarly, the second problem you cite relates to the petulant actions of the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. Aside from being in office to veto their nutty bills and urging the electorate to vote these rascals out, again what would you do, if elected governor, to stop the duly elected politicians from being stupid?

High-five on the Roadhouse reference. Do you have a philosophy degree from NYU?

Re: “Mistaken identity

Warren benefited so much from claiming Cherokee already through college and highschool which prompted her political career. Many things that have happened over the last 500+ years to our Turtle Island, lands were based on outright lies such as the invaders saying God sent them or man-made phrases such as manifest destiny and eminent domain, etc. The problem with people like Warren and this country is they rely on people forgetting reality, history, etc. Which is what keeps happening over and over. She will never say she is NOT Cherokee because in her settler mentality she stupidly believes she is Cherokee based on mere fairytale. Peace...from a full blooded Lakota.

Re: “Mistaken identity

The whole so called Lumbee tribe of North Carolina pretended to be Cherokee based on guesses and lore for over 40 years from 1910 thru 1945 yet no one has the courage to call them on their now sarraw siuoan claim in fact they now receive 13$million annually for having the best telltale lie from HUD as a state invented tribe based on state proof needed for that just good legends and votes!

Re: “Go Fourth

"Part of that is just being a good citizen, because when you shoot off loud fireworks it can disturb your neighbors."

You don't have to be a good citizen in the county. Neighbors? Hell with 'em. Scared dogs and wildlife? Too bad. And it's not just one night either. It starts when the stands open and goes beyond the 4th.

Re: “Go Fourth

We are losing our country by losing our freedoms. Shaving after shaving becomes a big chunk. If only we could trust any government forget about ours maybe we the people would be interested in bending a little but the facts are in our leaders are sell outs crooks liars and in bed with private corporate and foreigners undermining our American way of life and constitution.

If only we could trust our government things could be different so don't blame the people blame public corruption!

Re: “Go Fourth

Baloney. Fireworks pollute the air, scare the bejeezus out of dogs, create anxiety in veterans with PTSD, and leave toxic residue all over the landscape. Freedom? How about we accept that their are responsibilities as well as rights in being an American citizen.

Find some other way to celebrate freedom! Parades, parties, dancing ... even drinking (at home, not anywhere requiring driving).

Re: “Mistaken identity

So April, you didn't answer the question . Did you know about Elizabeth Warren claiming Cherokee ancestry while you were president of Native Americans of Harvard? It is my understanding that she lied to enrich herself so she could make tenure at Harvard. It also appears she knowingly did it as a way to advance her career , starting all the back when she started school in Pennsylvania.
To my question , I'll give you the benefit of doubt. But for you to give her a pass and especially after your last paragraph ... "to make a real and national impact and to empower native people ". sounds hollow. Especially since she has run away from the subject and has not recognized and admitted she lied for personal gain.
Sadly , I feel she is just another lawyer politician, who will say anything and do anything to advance her career .

Re: “Mistaken identity

Warren is unfortunately an opportunist that really has done nothing political progressive. How could she support Hillary? Easy. She is a Hillary clone. No friend of any indiginous people, native Americans, First Nations, Jews, Latinos or Indiginous tribal people around the world . Great article. You were being kind and thoughtful. She reminds of Al Gore, who never did anything for the environment or human rights but came off as an environmentalist pocketing multi millions off his supposed stand for the environment but never did anything. Thank you

Re: “Mistaken identity

If Warren thought the banks were so bad, that dark money was such a problem...why is she supporting Hillary?

I won't be fooled by this, and I won't be voting for matter who she chooses. My opinion of Warren has dropped considerably, however.

Re: “Just making it up

This accont is also applicable to our conditions here in Hawaiiki Tautau, Aotearoa, New Zealand.

We ma uri tangata whenua, not (maori-which was a word invented by an imperialistic regime) known commonly as the colonisers have been experiencing what is said here since day 1.

We as an aboriginal people contribute to 'righting the wrongs of the illegal settlers parliament' who have no constitution whatsoever in our native lands. We have served 'letters patent' on this government & all its agencies.

Re: “A matter of distinction

Niam - after all my experience I've come to a conclusion that very few likely know what their real end game is and or why they are doing what they are doing. But if I were to speculate my best guess from Americans point of view not all the other leaders and or private interests in the world (which I have many) it would be the following.

They want to travel in space, explore to the furthest reaches of the universe and beyond.
They also might know that we are on the path of total self destruction. Killing the planet (which is an argument) but never the less pollution is a fact and not debatable on both sides. Just human imposed climate change is debatable. Likely because lawsuits will start flying everywhere when they confirm the WHO did it fact.

In order to do this logically we the planet earth must not appear to be untrustworthy emotional unstable lunatics, war mongering psychopaths as we are today. Now as far as us? people like you and I? we don't fit into this category but we are also not burden with the task of making earth a good example (non threatening) to the unknown species we might meet in outer space.

Its all way much to definitively pin point motives but never the less the facts are in. Global treaty, global governance is no longer a theory. They say it flat out in various ways all over the UN website so...
