I played the sickest tech-house DJ set of my life there in 2000. The early years. We had over 150 people. Floor was packed. Bolton was there, of course. I remember thinking after that set, that I had finally done everything I wanted to do on a turntable in terms of that genre. I was done. Killed it. P0wned it. And that has held true. I've not since played a set of that genre.

Really well written article. RIP Elliott Smith.
Let's just keep over generalizing people and say that only middle aged men say "rave" anymore. Seriously, this article is a very poor representation of the magic that is BassBoat.
What a Bazaar article about Bassboat. Pretty positive, but with kind of condescending undertones.
Just one example:
'the decorations are absurdly sparse for a rave.'
Was the amazing scenery of Flathead Lake not enough?
People come far and wide for this amazing experience, from as far as Canada and California.
It isn't just some 'rave'.
This is a community experience like none other!
I'd like to add a shameless plug for Dudley Chicoine at Tech1 Electronics. He's my big brother, and I've watched him tinkering with stereo equipment for as long as I can remember. He taught me how to care for my 45s and my very first albums. He definitely DOES know his stuff! I don't think there's anyone else out there who does what he does.
And to think we knew you when......we love and admire you, Sara and Ron
Wish I could be there for your lecture, Doc! All best from Washington, DC. - Lilly
Doug Peacock is just another radical leftist global warming alarmist who doesn't understand science.
There's been no warming for at least 16 years, and no correlation between carbon dioxide levels and global temperature. Corrupt "scientists" changed the data and destroyed the original raw data. Global hurricane frequency at a 30-year low, strong tornado trends down, and snow and cold have been increasing in the winter in contrast to IPCC and NOAA climate report forecasts. Our current climate is in no way unusual, unnatural, or unprecedented - it's just another warm period.
Periods of warming and cooling have been occurring for eons without the help of humans. Science shows that there's no correlation between CO2 levels and global temperature (aside from the fact that CO2 levels rise many years AFTER warming begins, according to analysis Antarctic ice cores.
There's been no statistically significant warming since 1995, even as carbon dioxide continues to pour into the atmosphere. Global cooling 1945 - 1977 led to alarmists forecasting an impending ice age - how'd that work out?
Michael Mann's faked "hockey stick" graph, which purported to show a stable climate until CO2 levels began rising, is scientific fraud. As one scientist declared, "Michael Mann is at Penn State, but he should be in the state pen."
Thus, climate change clearly isn't caused or significantly contributed to by CO2, and it would be foolish to stop using oil and coal. Wind and solar power are pretty much useless.
Global temperatures have been cooling since 2002 link Earths temperatures are not constant. There were 23 periods of cooling and warming in the past 500 years with the average cycle being 27 years long. There were two cooling and warming periods in the past 100 years alone. 1880-1915 was a period of cooling 1915-1945 was a period of warming 1945-1977 was a period of cooling 1977-1998 was a period of warming 1998-the present, it has been cooling, all related to changes in solar activity and the Pacific El Nino and La Nina cycles link
Global temperatures today are among the coolest in the last 500 million years link
*The yearly average number of sunspots per year from 1991 through 2007 were 1,361, (according to the S.I.D.C.). Through September of 2008, we are one pace for only 56 sunspots for the entire year. Where is the global warming?
*After the Medieval Period the world cooled 4 degrees centigrade, causing the "Little Ice Age". This was a period of glacial advance from the mid 1400's to mid 1800's. Then the world began to warm once again. Many of the glaciers that are now retreating were ones that grew during this "Little Ice Age".
And of course, as solar technology evolves, it's most likely that panels will be smaller, less obtrusive, and better at what they do. But dead wolves and bears are still dead wolves and bears, bajada.
That's in part the reason why I donated $10,000 to the North Woods Conservancy last year. BTW I live on a fixed income for the past 5 years but believe we need to save these precious wildlife areas rather than build houses on them.
Climate change is the focus of all main stream enviros and they are whole-sale supporting the obliteration of hundreds of square miles of southwest habitat for solar panels. I hope Mr. Heyduke knows that another big environmental problem is replacing habitat with solar panels and killing raptors with wind turbines
I would like to add that you can plug a turntable into an auxiliary input (aux) on the back of your receiver, but you will need a phono pre-amp to boost the signal if you do.
We enjoyed your article very much Kate. We are vinyl addicts ourselves here in Bozeman and run the website, www.getitonvinyl.com. Check us out! Thanks for helping spread the word and keeping vinyl alive!
Portland is a bore in its newfound homogeneity, Austin a streetwalker now well-dressed and perfumed, and Santa Cruz a walking zombie as self hypnosis has sapped its strength. Missoula has always been the unassuming and underprivileged child left to its own devices. Unselfconscious, the child plays his own games, has his own world of secret friends, and revels in a world of his own devising.
Every man is unique whether or not the person next to them can see it. This is the hidden bounty shown only to those not bound by convention, status quo, and self-delusion. If one must proclaim to the world with some sort of contrived affectation that you are weird... you simply aren't.
I think Dan should personally sport a bumper sticker that says "if I wanted to put on turquoise cowboy boots and eat buffalo burgers next to a fern, I'd go to Bozeman." I think that sums things up perfectly.
We cannot be scared into the idea that it is dangerous to be weird. I will always be weird, and until I am the last one standing, because no one stood up for me because I embrace my weirdness, and my right to be weird, is when the cycle of weirdness ends.
To the quote, " I cannot think of a more dangerous sentiment. Both civic pride and simple logic dictate that we should not keep Missoula weird. We should make Missoula weirder."
You should check out Santa Cruz, CA which subscribed to keeping the town weird for a long time. They have suffered from that in many ways in that they became extremely tolerant of behavior destructive to it's city which culminated in two police officers being shot and killed. They are now trying to pick up the pieces.
