Re: “Real Iran

Awesome review Mr. Loos, thank you.

I haven't seen "A Separation", but it's on my list. Your analysis of David Nusair is the more pertinent review. He's an idiot. (How's that for a hack review?)

I found your review after looking at "Dr. Strangelove" on Rotten Tomatoes, and saw that David Nusair was the only "critic" out of 70 who gave it a negative review. When I looked at his RT reviews page, I saw that time and time again he voted against the consensus, and that he gave positive reviews to some very questionable films. He definitely has a type, and it seems to lean towards the more "simple" films.

It'd be great on RT if some reviewers would be weighted down, or omitted outright from a film if there was a strong vote against their review. I recall coming across this on "Iron Giant", which in my mind, and most critics, a superlative film, and yet some hack had given it a low review. I figured out that it was a younger reviewer, who didn't really know film reviewing.

Thanks again for the article.

Re: “Beasts of burden

The Argument was by far the best album of 2013. I wish I could have gone to his show in Brazil. I wonder if he will ever come to Chile.
On a kind of a side note, Good News For Modern Man has just been reissued with some extra tracks so check it out.

Andrés. (As Grant's mum, I am a teacher as well) =)

Re: “Real Iran

Lemme see, David Noose Heir, hmmm? Yes, a ringlike muscle, as I recall, aka Sphincter. I've seen other reviews by that dilettante and I would suggest to him that he pursue a career far from the arts. Heroin wholesaler in the South Bronx comes to mind.

Re: “Behind the music

I never thought of those questions Grohl asked, mentioned in the first paragraph, as a distraction. For instance, getting the musician to feel it, or find the sweet spot, is in my opinion the single most crucial part of making great recordings (Sound City was a recording studio after all and had great success in it's day). As far as the analog question is concerned, digital was the straw that broke the camels back and spelled the end of Sound City, therefore a crucial part of the Sound City story. Sound City is a great movie, but I believe it's geared more towards music production/audiophile types. It's interesting wondering what my reaction to the movie would have been if I hadn't been into the technical side of music production; being as I am into those things, I loved every minute.

Re: “Pot power

My Wife was diagnosed with Breast cancer with metastases with bone/liver/ovary involvement, after so many Chemo and Radiation. I came across Dr Kish contact through several testimonies of his Cannabis oil and I was able to contact him:, I but the cannabis oil from the Dr Kish and I have been using Cannabis Oil to treat my cancerous diseases for the past 5 months. It’s been about 4 months since I stopped using it. All of the positive effects are still there.
I am now healthy with no cancer in my body system anymore. Essentially my body feels like I'm 20 years old, while in reality I am more than double that. Within 5 months of being on the oil I started to shed pounds, my metabolism is super fast. I can eat burgers at fast food joints and still loose weight. I sleep through the night, my digestive system works better than it ever has. I have NO back pain whatsoever. Even after being off the meds this long. This stuff is simply amazing.
For help email: I am no longer a victim of cancer and I would love every other cancer patient at there to contact Dr Kish for help via: I do not have cancer anymore, but I still use my follow up medication for other cleansing of the body system. I started to use the oil to find its other benefits. Kish told me about how he believes the oil can reverse aging. I'm hoping it will slow it down or stop it completely. Not sure what to expect after prolonged use. I will update you guys to my findings of Dr Kish Cannabis Oil. Am using this medium to let you know that Dr Kish cannabis Oil will guarantee the total eradication of all types of cancers and other diseases as well. for help email:

Re: “Pot power

^ Yes because imposing your neurotic push to "productivity" on the rest of us is a completely acceptable reason to make a plant illegal. You may not understand this, but not everybody values productivity. I know that's mind blowing to you, but some people are simply happy to be alive, and if a plant makes life that much more enjoyable, why not indulge?

My adolescence was made substantially more enjoyable by the use of cannabis, so I don't see how that argument holds up any better. Do we not want our young people to enjoy themselves?

And for the record, I have a college degree, two jobs, and a medicinal card. I live in a house, I have friends, and I don't watch television. I also like to play sports, have good conversations, and laugh. I know that your small mind has trouble comprehending that this can be the case, but please, if you want to be "productive" and miserable, keep that to yourself and let the rest of us who actually want to take advantage of the opportunity of being alive do so in peace.

Re: “Pot power

Wow, I don't know how you can be so disingenuous, or simply mis-informed, or, worse, deliberately propagating lies..... there are mountains of (and building) scientific studies connecting marijuana use and schizophrenia. What needs to continue is MORE studies. Some findings point to the canabanoids in Marijuana being POSSIBLY relieving some psychosis in schizophrenia patients - more scientific studies show that the THC in marijuana is highly damaging and creates psychosis. So please, get your facts right because this issue is affecting the lives of real people.

Re: “Pot power

That's utter hogwash Jeff. I've never understood why some people think it's OK to be dishonest when discussing this issue.

It's laughably absurd to assert that the "gateway" "theory" or the old wives tales about cannabis caused amotivational syndrome has been proven.

Here's the web address of California Pediatrician magazine:…

On page 11 Dr. Seth Ammerman has an article titled Medical Marijuana: Update for the Pediatrician in which he examines and documents that there hasn't been a single State with a medicinal cannabis patient protection law that has suffered a statistically significant increase in the rate of youth use of cannabis.

In 2011 when the clowns in the Montana Legislature were so hell bent on repealing the State's medicinal cannabis patient protection law, the prohibitionist parasites and their sycophant used that same bogus assertion that youth use had skyrocketed. They even trotted out a teenage trollop who claimed that she had sold her body to get money to get cannabis. About a month after the Legislature sentenced sick people to suffer more than needed the Montana Youth Risk Survey was published and that proved that Montana Youth Use FELL during the time that the law implemented by referendum on Election Day 2004.…

I guess that you can't be a Christian since you've shown utter disregard for the 9th Commandment. If you're Catholic you need to get to Confession pronto because breaking a commandment is a mortal sin.

Re: “Pot power

The fact that every state that has legalized THC or "medical THC" has twice the percentage of adolescent marijuana users and that chronic THC smokers are proven to lack motivation to work and be productive is enough for me to be against it. Films or not.

I've never thought of this before, but wouldn't the good Lord expect us to eat drink and be merry?

I say the following with utter sincerity: WTF?

Also, I love me some M. Laich sentences.
