Re: “Lolo Pass

Great spring skiing on March 16. Even though a lot of snow has melted in the last week or so, it was still as deep as I've ever seen it up there. South faces skied well in the morning, and northern aspects softened up nicely after lunch.

Re: “Chief Joseph Pass

SNOW REPORT FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 31ST:
Temperatures are reaching the point where it is no longer possible to groom with any consistency. Trails were smoothed for the last time on Friday, March 29th. Because daytime temperatures rise so quickly, it is tracks were not set.

Remember that crust skiing will be good for quite some time yet, especially in the mornings. There is still plenty of snow at the Chief Joseph Trail System, snow which is unlikely to melt anytime soon.

Today's forecast is mostly sunny with a high of 56 degrees and light winds.

Re: “Lost Horse Canyon

SNOW REPORT FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 31ST:
This is a public observation from missoulaavalanche.org from Sunday, March 24th in the Lost Horse area North to Northeast facing, 8,000ft max elevation:

"Sunny, cold in shade. Very little wind, no snow transport observed. Slope had minimal wind loading from thr past week. No new snow.

"Cold and good snow from 8000 down to 6000 ft. First run – skier 3 of 3 caused slough from point release on more North East facing aspect. Second run – skier 1 caused significant soft snow avalanche as deep as 16-18 inches propagating 100+ ft wide traveling 600 vertical ft. Slope angle 38 degrees. Aspect North. Elevation 7900. Initiated 25ft down from ridge line.

"This slope sees less (very little) sun compared to the more north east facing aspect of our first run(also powder). The snow was powder but cohesive enough to have slab like behavior.

"Our pit results on North East aspect indicated stable snowpack with good bonding of new snow. ECT23N at soft snow interface and ECT27N a few inches deeper. Pit elevation 7000ft.

"Always be wary of snow near ridgelines and plan entrance to avalanche terrain with knowledge awareness and respect."

Thanks Steve Geiger!

SNOW REPORT FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 24th:
All classic trails were groomed on Friday, with fresh tracks set. Only light snow was forecasted this weekend, so skiing should be excellent. On Wednesday, groomers trimmed overhanging branches along the skate trails and compacted the skating surface. They're saying the skating trails are in the best shape of the season right now. All the trails including skate were groomed on Monday as well with compaction drags and rollers. Today there's a 20% chance of snow showers and partly sunny with a high near 35 degrees. Calm winds pick up to 5 mph in the morning. There's chance of rain and snow all week.

Re: “Mount Haggin

SNOW REPORT FOR SUNDAY, MARCH 17TH:
Observations of Mile High Nordic Ski Club.

"Last Sunday, March 10th, track was well-defined and firm, with temperatures in low 40's and transitional fresh snow with ice/corn snow on parts of the track. The track is turning hard and corny, so use caution on the downhills & turns as it is fast. We suspect skiing should be good for a few more weeks, but did note that our snowfall is down compared to years' past." Trails last groomed on March 5th.
