too dark too small, in the morning the owner is only interested in counting his money, what a scrooge, at night in the alley is a drug and dope party the police should be called for drinking outside and all the drunks, go inside old bearded men, what a let down.
Dismal. Except for one waitress we encountered poor and often rude service, currently only 3 beers on tap and the bar stank of stale beer. Food was good last year, but this year, not so much. We shall not be staying again.
This place is a joke. It makes pretense at being an establishment of fine dining but their quality of food is lower than my appetite after smelling their seafood fettuccine. The seafood smelled rancid, the prime rib weight was calculated on the bone and resulted in paying twice the price for half the meat, and the fact that they pack you in like sardines with a pathetic little salad bar in the corner you can barely get in and out of... save your money.
Jo, Mike "opened the doors to the community" because it made fiscal sense. Period. If he has helped a few queers along the way, well good for him. I bet he made money in the process.
Besides being run by an owner who discriminates against even DISABLED PEOPLE IN A VETERAN'S BAR*, AmVets is downright disgusting. Hope you enjoy black mold if you decide to venture down.
There are FAR better places in Missoula that are open and truly welcoming to the Queer community: and not just 'cause they want our money. In fact, most of us have long-since moved on. Won't find much gay at that "gay" bar anymore.
AmVets is a dank, dark zoo where straight people come to "gawk at the gays."
Amvets no longer"hosts" drag shows I used quotes because he didn't host those events for free he charged a rental fee plus received all the alcohol profits and it hasn't for yrs the manager has done little over the yrs in upkeep I can remember even 10+ yrs ago it being just a dumpy as it is now. I also haven't thought of it as a safe place for the lgbt community for quite some time that's why many have chosen to boycott the bar. Lets also not forget the man is facing criminal chargers over his mismanagement. Also handing out condoms in any bar in MT isn't uncommon.
I cant believe this place is still in business & still able to serve alcohol. I just talked to someone whose 17 year old sister was provided alcohol by this establishment on New Years eve so they still have not learned their lesson nor are they adequately training their employees to define age limits before serving these kids. I dont ever want another mother to go through what I have because of this so called fun center.
Amvets has been the gay bar in town for years, however a very homophobic owner who won't even allow Missoula's only gay news publication to be delivered, ruins the atmosphere and makes the gay community feel not welcome.Though, he won't deny them for it's just more money to pad his wallet. Most of the bartenders are lgbti and very nice, but owner Mike is not.
Dark, dank, and downstairs. People and performances not worth the place! Time for the community to consider a new spot.
Stopped by James Bar with a small group and was blown away by the rude female bartender. I lived in NYC for years and have traveled all over the world and never came across such rude service. It is so sad and disappointing to experince it in a great town like Missoula. Lighten up and get over yourself James Bar Bartender. We'll take our business elsewhere.
